58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 SilkTork (72) Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, Wales | December 22, 2012| Updated December 23, 2012 Dedicated beer shops are a rarity in France, so it was very pleasing to find that not only was there this shop almost next door to our apartment, but also that the prices are quite reasonable. The selection, apart from the local Marseille brewery, is totally Belgian, which is a little disappointing given how many French breweries are now open, and how those breweries are starting to be more consistent with their output, and more hygienic with their bottling, While the range of styles available from French breweries may be limited, the same can also be said of Belgian breweries. Anyway, the beer shop looks to be in the early days - there is no ambiance, no buzz, and it looks and feels a bit bare. One wall has the beers, arranged fairly sparsely in a shelving display. Unlike most beer shops, there is more space than bottles. I was the only customer on a Saturday afternoon close to Christmas - one other customer came in, had a look and left with no purchases. There isn’t a great choice for a dedicated beer shop - most Belgian tourist gift shops have a greater selection, and most RateBeerians will struggle to find beers they’ve not already had, but it’s a beer shop in France, and the prices are very good. Will it be here the next time I’m in Marseille? I don’t know - I hope it will be - I hope it will thrive. I will tell people I know in Marseille to come here. |
