Visited on 22/1-2013 on The Jorvik Trail. Bigger citypub, just next to the citywall, many different rooms ( almost got lost going back from the toilet ), and a lovely beergarden. Looks as they have a great menu, didn´t eat though, but would defently be an option next time in York. They have a beer special made for them, Golden Mane, and this is the only place it´s served.

A pleasant, neat bar with a great beer garden tucked in under the walls by Bootham Bar, reputedly within earshot of services in the Minster. We noticed the Lamb and Lion whilst wandering round York one evening and thought it might be worth a look when it wasn’t so busy. They were advertising various meet the brewer events, for example with Copper Dragon in February and Moorhouses in March, where for £20 you get to pair Lamb and Lion food with various ales. This sounds like a good deal as the food we saw being served when we went back a few days later looked substantial. It’s quite a trendy place and in keeping with this the food was served on large white plates. As for the beer, there are four casks – a regular is Golden Mane, brewed especially for the bar by Great Heck - and four kegs. The front bar is small and plain with a wooden floor, chocolate brown panelling below the dado and cream walls. The atmosphere is quite relaxed and cosy, with tea-lights on the tables. Further inside, off a sort of half landing are two small snugs and, overlooking the street, a parlour where the meet the brewer events are held. Outside, up a stone staircase, there’s a lovely garden set right against the walkway of the mediaeval walls. (Visited 26 February 2012).
