68 Decent York (& therefore Black Sheep) Brewery bar just off Kings Square. Walking in, it has the feel of a posh coffeehouse or slightly upmarket micropub. They seem to specialise a bit more in BlackSheep beers here than some of their other pubs in town, but there are still quite a few cask guests to choose from including beers from Brew York, Wensleydale, Helmsley, plus keg from the likes of BBNo and Burning Sky. Not an unmissable beer pub, but one that adds to the spirit of York having good beer pubs. If that makes sense. |
72 The first place I went into. the Beers on tap were mostly york brewery own beer. I like the fact they used barrels for tables and had exposed brick work from this old pub |
84 This place has upticked a bit, based on the reviews here. At least 8 casks, all top notch, including 4 of their own. Small and friendly, and bypassed (thank goodness) by the throngs of tourists. Full bar and coffee available too. Small beer garden around back, Worth a visit, even if just for the cask pour of Centurion's Ghost. |
62 (From my archive:) York Brewery’s first pub. Their Stonewall (cask) was in perfect nick. Decent pub.

64 OK it’s a pub, but still could do with a little more taking care off. GreatLocal beer list though and pleasant care-taking service. Food seems to be OK too, although I did not take. Still. |
62 Split level pub facing King’s Square where the Duke Of York is also situated. The nicest part is arguably the lower level part by the window, which has a few more tables than the rear area which houses the small bar on its right side. Here you’ll find several regular York brewery ales alongside a few guests. It’s a comfortable place, although somewhat simplistic given it’s central and has no problem getting people in, probably lots of single day tourists in the main. |
58 An old building in the centre of York, close to the Shambles, but only a pub since 2000. Predominantly serving York Brewery beers, there is an emphasis on food although the atmosphere is calm and quiet, normally. Pleasant little outdoor seating area. It’s fine. |
70 A nice place in York featuring York Brewery products. There was a loud hen party (or ladies 50th birthday party) when we were there, so that was a bit annoying. They were drinking Old Speckled Hen and laughing hysterically about it. I note that some pubs in the UK have policies against these sorts of groups, but whatever, it was interesting. Some good ales. |
76 Nice place. Lots of assistance from staff. Not large, but there’s space enough in mid-afternoon. Beers were in good condition. Good place to rest the feet. And drink a few halfs before continuing travel. |
64 Stumbeled upon this place during our Scotland trip - Located in the center of York. Typical English style pub, friendly serving, local York beers. Worth a visit when in the neighbourhood. |
