Ambiance - Really cool place. Dimmly lit with lots of dark wood decor and tons of dolls and trinkets. Almost felt a bit dark cabaret themed or perhaps that’s just me finding dolls spooky. Service - Friendly. Selection - Seemed to have plenty of beers but didnät explore the selection at all. Couldn’t resist to have a Taras Boulba on tap when in Brussels and this is the place where I got it. Food - Did not eat. Value - Fair. Additional comments - None!
This unique Brussels establishment offers a cozy and quaint doll-like interior and a street-side patio. The patio was nice for watching all the tourists pose for Manneken Pis photos. A diverse Belgian beer selection is offered by nearly rude waiters.
Nice traditional Belgian boozer in the style of an old fashioned tavern. Located in a touristy part of town alongside a huge number of chocolate shops. Outside table seating for warmer days and evenings and a nice traditional cozy atmospheric interior, featuring some weird puppets hanging from the ceiling. Vibe is warm and friendly and service was great when I was in. Food looks decent, although mainly pasta type stuff rather than Belgian classics. Bottle list is extensive and I found myself taking a long time to choose. No seating at the bar.
Ironically not a cellar at all. Instead a lovely old fashioned (but not dusty or dark) beer-loving interior with typical decorations and oozing beer atmosphere. Good list of beers, perhaps no real surprises and little to tick for whomever is already well versed in the Belgian beer scene, but with many De La Senne and sours, why complain? Prices a tat high, but nothing crazy, in line with the expectation. Right next to the Manneke Pis, so one expects much less than a well equipped and charismatic beer bar. Amazingly friendliness service too for such a place. And knowledgeable. Must visit for those from overseas, still good for continental travelers.
This place is great. Big list of beers on draught and in bottles. There are some real gems on the list such as Cantillon Lou Pepe. We went around 7 o’clock so it was really busy but they were able to seat us within 10 mins. They have a limited selection of food but what they do have is delicious. Must try if in Brussels.
Ended up here a few times during our visit to Brussels in June 2015.
The decor is weird. Creepy ass dolls all over the place. Kind of gives the place it’s own character though. One cool thing though was the list of groups that had dressed up the Manneken Pis, dating back to the ’30s with lots of American soldiers mentioned during WWII. First time here, we sat down inside. Table service only, no orders at the bar. I had a couple of Taras Boulba and Saison IV which were both in exceptional shape. The beers were cheap as well (about €4 a pour) which was impressive considering the location right by Brussels’ most popular tourist trap. Actually forgot to look at the bottle list as we were tired after a day of ticking. Our server was attentive, efficient and even cracked a few jokes. On our second visit, we sat outside which would’ve been nicer than it was if it wasn’t for the massive amount of tourists by Manneken Pis. All in all, I’ll gladly come back and get drunk on awesome, cheap draft beer once again.
This is a mix of theatre, junk shop and traditional beer bar all in the same square as the ’is that it?’ statue in central Brussels. We have always tended to end up in the same part of the pub, so I can’t say I have seen everything it has to offer, but with the traditional puppets lining the walls and a whole host of oddities, there is enough to keep the imagination going. The service is attentive and helpful, even if you don’t want to eat. The beer menu seemed a little restricted on this visit, I struggled a little to find anything really interesting. All in all a pub we will continue to visit on our infrequent trips. Definitely worth a look.
