82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 wimpyjoe (568) Manchester, England | January 17, 2013 The pub is at the foot of the hill where the walk up to the castle begins, naturally this is a very old part of the city and this pub represents that. Entrance is on the ground level but inside it is a converted cellar with three adjacent brick curved arch rooms adjoining the larger room which is only occupied by the bar. The middle arch room is given over to the dining tables but the arched room either side of this has more ambient lighting and classy soft furnishings which make it an extremely cosy place to enjoy a drink. As there is no natural light it’s hard to tell what time of day it is, only the amount of people in the place will tell you as it can be quiet during the daytime. Out front is a small garden area with picnic tables. There’s plenty of cask ales to choose from that are both local and from further afield. | 64 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 worldbeertaste (73) , England | November 16, 2011| Updated January 27, 2013 This is a beautiful old place. Its has an underground feel of a cave with a bar in it. Easily one of the rarest looks for a pub. It looks very old. Staff is usually a bit distracted and bothered by questions. Food is amazing but overpriced but it is a cask mark pub so the ales a clean and good. Only 5 ales though. One of the nicest in Lancaster. |
