(Visited 10/2014): Mongoose v. Cobra is located on McGowan Street downtown not too far off I-45. Street parking is available in the surrounding area.
The exterior of the large brick building has a nice covering of ivy. Inside opens to one large room with the bar on the left side and long picnic table seating on the left. Brick walls, hanging lights on the ceiling and a large projection TV in the rear. The wall opposite the bar has 3 large chalk boards listing the beers.
MvC features around 40 beers on draught, with many TX breweries represented like Live Oak, Buffalo Bayou, Brazos Valley, and 8th Wonder. Other craft breweries like Deschutes and Ommegang as well. Samples are available. Smaller selection of bottles too.
Service on a relatively slow Friday evening at the bar was good. The bartender was attentive with samples and conversational throughout my visit.
I did not have any food on my visit.
Overall this is a cool bar with a solid beer list in downtown Houston.

Looks like the empty shell of an old brick building. In fact itís the *nearly* empty shell of an old brick building. Very good eclectic beer list including everything from hard to find locals to under the radar imports. Havenít sampled the food yet.

Nice beer list, though itís really light on ales. Good regional representation. They take the íbarí thing a little too far: Despite serving food that requires utensils, all they offer is a knife, no fork. Beers served a little too cold.

Cool place. Nice interior and a good beer selection. The bratwurst covered in kimchi was excellent. The prices arenít even outrageous. Good times.

Another nice addition to the Houston beer scene ...although they also have a nicely stocked bar overall. Lovely interior. Lots of local talent on display. Interesting food. And a selection of beer that will easily get you through the night.
