60 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 Boudicca (373) London, England | March 15, 2013 An odd place, this. Glancing through the other reviews, it seems people either love it or are a bit ambivalent. I fell into the latter category, despite (or perhaps because of) having been looking forward to visiting ever since they invited me to be a friend on Facebook!
You enter on the corner and there’s the brewery and a tasting room behind a glass wall near the door; then there’s the shop (which didn’t look very well stocked), a long bar and a small area with tables at the back. There was nowhere to perch so I ordered my drink and went to sit in the tasting room. The whole place was strangely lacking in atmosphere and the service was a bit offhand. The beer list was good though – three of their own beers on tap, several De Molens and lots and lots of bottles.
I’ll give it another try when I’m next in Stockholm – perhaps I just caught it on a bad evening.

Service was mediocre. Nothing really stood out on draft and the bottle selection while somewhat impressive, was way overpriced. It was quite and ordeal to find parking for this place, not worth the time spent in my opinion. Next time I will try the porterhouse. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 13/20 gnoff (256) Mölndal, Sweden | November 17, 2012 Visited on November 16, 2012. Fairly close to just walk over from the central station. Nice, clean, though a bit posh restaurant feeling to the ambience. Long bar with no seating, though some smaller seating along the opposite wall, creating a corridor by the bar. Two seating areas, one just inside the front door, one after the bar. Staff was fairly attentive and pretty service minded, also about as knowelagable as one might come to expect. Not the best service, but not bad either. Asked to purchse their 3.3% ABV beer to take home, but at 68 SEK (about 11 USD) I almost laughed at them, no, did not buy that one... Prices are high. I got the flights with 5 beers at 10 cl/3 fl oz each, and it was 149 SEK. I do enjoy flights, but this price was ridiculous, but yeah, I got it since I could score 5 ratings I can’t elsewhere. Some of the bottles were decently priced though. Did not eat this time around, and with the prices and how I feel for other bars in this city not sure how often I’ll return, not even with them often having new beers self brewed. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20 womencantsail (390) Garbage Grove, California | September 21, 2012 Somewhat small location that was actually right near our hotel and is pretty close to the Central Station. Huge bottle selection, decent tap list, and friendly people to drink with. The prices are a bit expensive, but it’s Stockholm, so that’s pretty much what you get. Cool little place, though. | 44 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 1/10 OVERALL 7/20 Ruddles (18) , | September 1, 2012 To expensive, waaaay to expensive... The prices on the menu wasn’t even the same as on the receipt. And a lot of the beers on the menu is out of stock... As usual at Monks.... | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Benzai (82) Oirschot, Netherlands | August 21, 2012 Good service, easy to find, good selection, especially some hard to find-bottles and prices, oh well, I think normal for Stockholm centre. I’ve you’ve never been there it may appear overprised, but I don’t think it is. Only thing that bothered me was the early closing time. One night I walked in 22.45h and I was told it was the final round. I asked what their closing time was and they said 24.00h. So that sounded a bit strange to me, over an hour before officiel closing time is the last round already? Too bad, cause they had some great beers there I would have loved to try. Well, hopefully I’ll get another chance at some point! | 66 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 14/20 imthebest (23) , | July 11, 2012 This place has the vibe of a hotel lobby bar, very sterile. Three or four house-brewed beers then mostly belgians and De Molen on tap. Large bottle selection. Overpriced. A good place to visit once. | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 10/20 tomashanzon (9) , Sweden | May 22, 2012 The idea with Monk´s is simple, yet brilliant. An enormous range of beer from all over the world. There are a couple of problems though. Because the range is so big, Monk´s think that they can charge double the amount of anyone else. For example a couple of African lagers cost 100sek here, but at a local African diner the same beer cost 55sek. Quite a difference. Then a lot of beer "just ran out" when you tell the waitor what you want to order. Prices are simply too high. Also the exxagerate some of the beers they have. For example Goose Island seem to be the worlds best beer acc to Monk´s. The ones I have tried from that brewery were nothing special, but expensive. Maybe they have some special deal. | 48 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 10/20 chrull (13) , Sweden | February 23, 2012 Don’t let the big beer menu fool you. If you ask for a specific rare beer, you will often get the "last bottle was just served to someone else" answer. There are good members of the staff, but most of them seems to know nothing about beer. A big dissapointment. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 Marko (188) Split, Croatia | October 9, 2011 Visited here with Per (whom I can’t thank enough) and got a first class treatment because of that so I can’t really tell how it is when you usually walk up here. Didn’t have time to explore the entire place, but the area around the bar was completely full, while the benches near the brewing equipment were completely empty when we arrived. Strange. Still, the tap list featured among other things (of varying interest), 3 of their own beers, all of which were very good (a 4.1 and a 3.8, ’nuff said), and the bottles that Per got us were very rare, very cool Riegele stuff. Ever had a barrel aged German Imperial Stout? how about a German IPA? No? Well we got them here! Can’t comment on the prices, but I doubt that they’re worse than at the BAs. Another must visit! And I do wonder how the other two compare. |
