66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 14/20 solidfunk (98) Ontario | May 5, 2013 Decent place lost in an industrial warehouse zone at the end of the brewery tour of Victoria. Not sure if this place ever gets busy but it wasn’t on a Saturday around 7. Beers are decent, with the weizenbock being the uncontested best. Bartender was pretty grumpy at the end of her shift. Didn’t treat me wrong but snapped at all the other servers. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 CapFlu (190) Victoria, British Columbia | December 24, 2012 So the brewpub has now grown up... under new management since Fall 2012, the beer has improved immensely since co-owner and brewmaster Clay Potter moved over from Lighthouse Brewing and got this operation out of low-gear. The kitchen is fantastic - I highly recommend the Morrocan Chicken Sandwich ($12.95); lunch colleagues religiously order the Chili with corn bread (Small $6.95 / Large $8.95). As for the beers, everything is now SOLID... I love the crispness of the Pott’s Pils - likely one of my Top2 for the style; and the India Red Ale (IRA) is also a good walloping of hops with some malt balance. I can’t say enough about the positive change encountered here. With the location being in an industrial park, I’m hoping the off-sale and bottled distribution keeps money flowing in as the geographical location is not terribly near any population and is somewhat difficult to access sans-auto.[Total 76%]
(Original review from March 11, 2011) Location, beer styles and food is all fairly unique. Very British with low-ABV, bar-service (no waiters/waitresses) and siutated in a very modern and expansive industrial complex. The "Toad in the Hole" ($13) wasn’t as large as I’d seen in a recent blog, it was "good" but I like my Yorkshire Pudding to be lofty and not a pancake. Also it was bland so I dressed it up with salt and pepper. Since I was still hungry I ordered the Pulled-pork Sandwich ($10) which was very delicious. At this point there was only 4 beer offerings - for which I sampled the Pale Ale and Blonde, both okay, but the IPA was above average. From my notes and previously sampling, I suspect that their Bitter (3.8% ABV) is their best... though that’s also a tough sell in a town with Canoe’s River Rock Bitter (5.2% ABV) and the Canoe view of inner-harbour. I found the beers to be mediocre but it was a cool little joint. The folks that I spoke with here were some of the nicest people I’ve ever spoken with. I’ll be back here if I ever make it back into town. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 19/20 vicisthebest (1) , | July 23, 2011 Wonderful beer, great place, great ambiance, friendly people, great food. We are coming back! |
