64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 14/20 Iphonephan (76) Virginia | December 30, 2012 Stopped in on a ski trip to Canaan Valley. Had a flight of all 5 ot their beers on tap for a total of $3. All were decent beers. Had some chili too and it was tasty. Freindly folks.. Worth the 10 mile drive on snow covered roads. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 cpetrone84 (39) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | July 9, 2012 Very nice little set up. It was extremely hot out and they don’t have ac so it can get warm in there. Cool set up and really rustic feel to it. They have a back room for dining and a stage so I’m guessing live bands. Beers are meh but for WV its a winner. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 beachbum25 (67) Powellville, Maryland | September 29, 2009 Stopped by here as I was going thru Thomas just to check the place out on a Thursday afternoon even though I knew they weren’t gonna be open. Had spent the last 2 nights @ Deep Creek Lake & Enjoyed their new place in McHenry Md, wanted to see the brewery. Ran into 2 guys installing new equipment who I had seen the night before. They recognized me & were as nice as can be..."come on in, look around...pour yourself a brew!" (I Did!) Very small & very casual, entertainment on the weekend, real down to earth place/folks. Not much food selection, they run some specials so it could be kind of hit or miss. They are in the process of upgrading & expanding their capacity to allow them to brew seasonals, it’s all they can do now to keep up w/the demand for their 4 staple brews since their new place in Md opened. I’ll have to get back here & catch a show! | 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 MtStateBeer (22) Hurricane, West Virginia | July 22, 2008 This place is definitely the late-night weekend (Saturday night) hang out in Thomas, WV. We went to The Purple Fiddle first, and finished here. The ambiance was very rustic. The small bar area was nice and cozy, like a den. There was an open “dance” area in a barn-type building and an outside sitting area. The environment was very relaxed and welcoming. Service was decent, the bartender was newer but good. Selection is their brews, sangria, and Car bombs. My favorite was the Seneca IPA. The others were good as well. Growlers and kegs were available for purchase on-premises. The had advertisements for helvetia cheese but I cannot remember if they actually had it at the bar for consumption. Overall it was a very nice place, a must visit if in the area. Also, their posted hours for (at least Saturday) the weekends are very ‘flexible.’ | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 agl108 (30) Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania | July 2, 2008 Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon after hiking Blackwater Falls. Not much going on, but the place had a nice cozy, rustic feel. Tried the IPA, amber, and stout. All fairly decent with the amber surprisingly the best. They also have a sangria on tap that is supposedly very good but neither my wife or myself tried it. Small bar area with seating for only about a dozen or so. Large garage-like room adjacent to the bar with random couches and chairs set up. Also a small stage set up in the corner for performers (live music on the weekends). Be sure to also check out the nearby Purple Fiddle for more live music if you’re in Thomas/Davis/Canaan. |
