Lovely old pub just off the centre of Clitheroe, handy for the Clitheroe Camping site nearby. Small rooms, often quite full, but a really good atmosphere and beer choice. Mostly local ales. Really worth a visit.

Opposite and often in the shadow of the Clitheroe Castle perched on the hill above it, it is by no means new. This old building has three small rooms downstairs to choose from if you want to sit, but the bar occupies most of the central one. Space is limited so the tables are small and stools are aplenty. At the bar real ale takes precedent and a fine collection of local brews are available on seven or eight pumps. There’s also a garden area to the rear.
