NIce place, looking back at the trip, the second best selection in Helsinki (pikkulintu being the only better), only got 1 of the special cantillons but still an enjoyable place with some nice brews. Will be stopping by in june 2014 on our trip.

Stopped by to have a bottle of Cantillon Tyrni Lambic. I was definately not dissapointed. A rough looking place on outskirts of Helsinki serving some excellent selection of beers. Service is friendly and the chap in the bar was a great one to chat with.

Went in here on a Tuesday night and we were the only people in there for awhile. Bartender was sitting on the couch watching TV, but got up an helped us. Small but varied draft selection and a couple of fridges filled with a few regulars and some more higher-end stuff (including a handful of Cantillon, one brewed especially for One Pint). Definitely a hole-in-the-wall pub atmosphere, but very comfortable and friendly. Looks like maybe they do live music or have a DJ sometimes. Lots of brewerania, growlers, and empty bottles as decoration. Definitely easy to blow some cash here.

I found out on my last night in town that this was just a short walk away. A tiny place at the base of an apartment block. The outside terrace next to the canal was nice, the inside was a dark cluttered Aladdin’s Cave of Beer. Which is a good thing. The focus seemed to be on French/Belgian stuff. They had sahti but almost half of the other taps seemed to be out. The staff was friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. The crowd a mix of people living nearby I think. I was tempted by a 19 euro Les Quebecoise but went for the 47! Euro Cantillon Baie d’Argousie brewed with sea buckthorn fruits. It was a 2002 vintage bottled in 2004, there are possibly less than a dozen bottles of this left in the world as Cantillon no longer brews it... Anyways, a nice place but aside from the Belgian beers it didn’t seem terribly impressive to me. Worth checking out if you want Belgian beers in Helsinki or are in the area.

A bit messy, cluttered, and dirty inside, but it has a certain charm due to a lot of the junk being beer paraphernalia. Not much interesting on tap during our visit, but lots of bottles are available. Sadly, the bottles are in coolers out in the middle of the room and are not protected from either sunlight or bulbs inside the cooler, and indeed a couple that we tried were skunky (one very badly so). No excuse for that, especially at the very high prices being charged. Some rarities, including the special Cantillon Tyrnilambic, but all in all a rather lackluster experience.

Not exactly the nicest pub I’ve seen, rather gritty, small and noisy. But the selection is impressive, both on tap and bottle. Had only chance to stay for one beer so missed out on a big lot. Definitely worth checking the Finnish specialties and other rarities. Although a bit off city centre, easily reached by metro or tram.

A short subway ride from the city center the One Pint Pub is a little bar tucked away by some residential flats. It might not rival the selection of some other places but nothing here is lackluster. I stuck with a Lammin Sahti and a bottle of Cantillon brewed specifically for the pub (35 euro).
The balance between local and international beers means that you have plenty of flexibility. If your goal is to tick as many Finnish beers as possible you can get about eight. If you want rare bottles that don’t make it to the States they have those as well. Make this a must stop if you’ve got the time.

A short tram ride to the west of central Helsinki. Belgian / English brown bar atmosphere. Three bottle fridges near the entrance. A lot of French beer from a recent festival of some sort. Vintage Tyrnilambic Baie d’Argousier. One of the best bathroom signs I’ve seen.

A small pub not far from the city center featuring a good selection (per m^2 atleast). The initial impression can be quite crude; it looks and feels like a dive bar frequented only by locals. Which is partly true. But you’ll find a pretty nice selection of imported beers (mostly from Europe), sahti, events to attend and interesting people. Small and a bit dark. Has a patio during summer where there’s often a guy with a bbq serving sausages and other eatables. Recently they’ve been selling home-made thai meals that are pretty good. And I feel the selection is actually better than earlier. Not overly much at any one time, but the bottle selection changes constantly, due to the enterprenourish efforts of the owner, so there’s usually something new to try.
