90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 19/20 bytemesis (214) Sunnyvale, California | January 30, 2013 OK, first of all, why is this place not in google maps? I had to navigate by address cause it kept wanting to take me to Pleasanton even when I said Livermore. OK, rant over. I had heard a lot about this place and was dying to check it out. Finally got the chance when I ended up that way for work and had (just) enough time for the detour. Pretty big store, but most of the space is dedicated to non-beer. The craft beer is confined to one long shelf plus a row of coolers. Things are stored pretty haphhazardly with labels not matching products and some individual bottles showing up in about six different places around the area. That being said, the selection is pretty damn impressive. Nothing too hugely whale-like, but they did have a lot of beers I havent seen on the shelves anywhere else in the bay. Picked up RR Sanctification and Damnation B69 for great prices, as well as a bunch of other stuff. Overall prices are a bit on the high side compared to say City Beer or K&L Wine Merchants, but some of their stuff is dirt cheap. I am a bit concerned with shelf aging, however. For example, they still had a couple bottles of YuleSmith SUMMER on the shelves, which can’t be too great six months later. Ditto for Port Hop-15 and its three months of aging. That aside, this is a great place, I just recommend checking best by dates, particularly for IPA’s. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 19/20 Ibrew2or3 (300) Tempe, Arizona | December 19, 2012 What! I haven’t rated this place yet. Been here a couple of times. This place puts out the rare / hard to find stuff and at a pretty fair premium. Lots of stuff from all over the globe. They have a decent selection of local stuff but since I’m no longer local seeing a bigger local selection would be cool. That said I still find several local brews I need to get each visit. If you are anywhere near here you need to stop by. All in all one of the best selections I’ve seen in CA. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 strongpieman (97) Mount Airy, Maryland | September 8, 2012 Very helpful staff. Good selection of bombers and high quality beers. Not a place for 12oz singles though. Pricing seemed normal for the beer offered. A good place to visit while in the area. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 2/10 OVERALL 16/20 Cory (10) , California | September 6, 2012 My biggest issue with this place is the prices. I did a quick price check for beer I bought there to another beer store in SF, I could have saved about $5 per beer if I went into the city. That said they have a great selection of beers that I just cannot find elsewhere in the Bay Area. Further, they sometimes have out of season beers that they have purposely held on to. The staff are friendly and offer help if you want it and not if you don’t. It’s a great place if your in the area and have the cash but otherwise... | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 womencantsail (386) Garbage Grove, California | August 2, 2012 Kind of an infamous place. They do have a really nice selection, for the most part, but prices are typically high and they’ve been known to engage in some less than savory business practices. If you know what you’re getting yourself into, not a bad place. But I wouldn’t drive from the Peninsula just to go here. | 76 AMBIANCE 1/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 wchesser (26) Denver, Colorado | May 1, 2012 This place is legit. Saw the reviews and had to make a drive out while in San Ramon on work. Tons of Bruery (4 French and other limiteds), Alesmith (the whole line), Ballast Point (Victory at Sea and Sea Monster), Mikkeller, JW Lees, North Coast...list goes on. Knowledgeable staff (one of them anyway).
Picked up a Mikkeller/FFF Boogoop, a Victory at Sea, a High Water Campfire Stout, a local triple IPA, some 21st Amendment The Allies Win the War, and more. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 Scopey (271) Croydon, England | March 11, 2012 We stopped past here on our way to Yosemite form Santa Rosa. It’s a fairly unassuming liquor store from outside, excluding the small sign saying craft beer. It has a very extensive selection of beers from all over the world - US, Belgium, Denmark, UK etc. It’s a large store and pretty much half of it is dedicated to beer! Lots of exciting stuff from the best CA breweries like Alesmith, Stone, The Bruery etc, but there is also lots of obscure stuff I have never seen or even heard of before. Perhaps prices are a touch more expensive than those in the bay area, but you can’t argue with the selection. Very friendly service. A brilliant beer store. | 92 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 snotrocket (8) | December 29, 2011 Wow, probably one of the best selection of rare/special release beers that I’ve seen. Coolers full of limited edition, barrel aged beers. The beer specialist was extremely knowledgeable and helped me with beers I’ve never seen before. There’s also a big selection in the walk in cooler and in the back room. The prices on the rarer stuff is a little pricy, so know your prices and you can come out with a great score. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 14/20 danbierman (10) California | August 23, 2011 Overall a great Craft Beer Store. Amazing selection, from local beers to imports they have anything your looking for. Service is good, most of the people know what they are talking about. The downfall of the store is pricing. Every single beer in the store is overpriced. They sell standard beers for at least 15-20% more than most craft beer stores. If they got they pricing down to a more reasonable level then I would be a more frequent customer. | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 KrausenJockey (4) Stockton, California | July 28, 2011 Harpreet has really taken the beer selections to a new high. The wall of cold storage is just packed full of goodies for every beer drinker. A few backroom specials are always interesting as well. Nice job guys. |
