82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 MlhopeTC (18) Orlando, Florida | October 24, 2012 Great brewery location. Out in the middle of the mountains. If it is nice outside you’ll want to just grab a table and enjoy the weather. Pretty good beer that is apparently constantly rotating. Only one bartender for the entire place though, and while it was only a Thursday, the place was pretty packed for there to only be one guy. He was a good bartender though and kept us happy. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 maxwelldeux (59) Raleigh, North Carolina | September 2, 2012 Actually, this was a very nice brewery, for what it was. No food, no waitstaff, but the beer was quite good. It’s in this industrial area with no AC, so it was awfully hot. Very low-key and chill. Dog friendly, too. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | July 14, 2012 Anazing place, full of friendly hippies and their admirers. Basically a storage locker with a bar. And a live music stage. And a festival surrounding it, at least on the day we visited. Beers were nothing short of miraculous. I could live here and die happy. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 b3shine (179) Cincinnati, Ohio | July 9, 2012 A decent brewpub in Black Mountain that doesn’t have a large selection and is in the middle of an industrial park, but is kind of cool otherwise. Pretty much your standard brewpub beers on draft with a couple of guest taps. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 AppVin (4) North Carolina | February 15, 2012 Amazing brewery. They’ve made a totally comfy spot in an industrial park complete with a multi-acre outdoor stage area, fire pit picnic tables etc. The beer selection at the tasting room is usually flowing with at least 15 of their top beers, alongside a few well chosen guest taps. There’s regularly a food vendor hanging somewhere on property. All pours are priced right and the music shows always sound amazing. A little slice of heaven up stream from Asheville. CASH ONLY but they do have an ATM. | 48 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 11/20 hellbilly (139) scottsdale über alles, Arizona | October 18, 2011 drove all the way out here from cullowhee on 7/12/11.... man, was it disappointing. four of their own beers on tap plus five guest taps. unfortunately, i found myself drinking the guest beers because all of the house taps were meh. this is the first brewery i can safely say that i hate the atmosphere... not the location or the fact that it is in a grimy warehouse (or the shitty hours)... i hate the people here. they make me want to leave... | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 Braudog (655) Hampton, Virginia | October 5, 2011 October 2011. Somewhat hard to find in a semi-abandoned industrial area, this place screams with "hippie squatter" vibe. Choose between the garage-like or gravel outdoor seating areas, or sidle up to the warehouse bar. On the day I visited there were 9 beers on tap. I liked 6 of them, with 3 either uninviting or in at least 1 case clearly off. Of the 6 I liked, I’d say 3 were good. I have a feeling this inconsistency is characteristic of this place, as everything else came across in an overly non-chalant way ... like we’re too busy being cool to offer really great service ... sometimes this can backfire as a business approach. That said, the place has some good potential, and at it’s best can be really fun. Offering the wide array of 9 beers they did alone was a step above so many places that carry crowd the micro/nano/brewpub market these days, so props for that alone. Wouldn’t mind checking out some live music here with more time to sample some different beers. (#549) | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 lopezlopezlope (11) , | October 1, 2011 love how out-of-the-way this place is...best beers in asheville area second to the wedge | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 tmongoose (55) Louisville, Kentucky | September 6, 2011 take your gps because this place is tucked back in an industrial park area and is basically in a section of a warehouse. no food to be had but decent size bar with several stools to sit on. several picnic tables in the court yard area. out in behind is a field where they just finished a day long concert and can have music inside as well. they had several of their own beers on draft and 3 or 4 others and i say why bother drink what you came for. the bartender was nice enough for a couple of tasters. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | August 27, 2011| Updated August 29, 2011 Located in an old industrial park. Kind of hard to find even with the GPS. Once we found the parking lot, go in the front door, you’ll see the bar on the left or just go around to the right and enter from that direction. It’s located in a warehouse and unlike troegs and Victory in PA it doesn’t try to be something else. They had 9 Pisgah beers on tap and some weird guest taps (Dos Equis ?!?) The solstice and Porter were the clear winners. Everything else was solid but not spectacular. They don’t take credit cards but they do have an ATM. The music was especially debilitating to my psyche. It was that genre you only get in bars of middle-aged white guys trying to play blues music. I can’t remembering ever being in a place for a couple of hours and not liking one single song that was playing and I used to work in a karaoke bar so I’ve heard enough bad music to last a lifetime but this was worse. I think it’s a solid place but I’m scratching my head at those who say it’s the best of the Asheville breweries. |
