Great place, walkable from the centre. Really homely neighbourhood pub vibe with by far the best range of beer I saw on the South Island. ~25 taps - all NZ micros, and they seem to change very frequently. Loads of one-off type beers etc. Food was really good too, though the chips were pretty average - usually it’s the other way around. Definitely recommended.

Known as the craft beer headquarters of Christchurch - and for good reason. The selection of beer and food are the best in town and the service allows one to enjoy them with ease. A go-to venue for sure.

A pub that reminds me very much of British pubs. Impressive amount of 28 taps and 3 hand pumps, with almost exclusively local craft beer. Their selection of NZ beer is good, but the focus on the local market also means that unfortunately you basically only get the typical British beer styles. A few bottled beer are available too, but in an amount or quality that would be noteworthy.

A traditionally styled pub with ample seating of tables, stalls, sofas and stools. Decorated in a fashion not entirely dissimilar to what you might find on the inside of a local pub in England with its historical memorabilia on the walls, fading wildly patterned carpets, pool table etc. 30+ beers on keg and handpump including a couple if ciders with a variety of bottled offerings, wines and spirits to be found too. Situated on the far east of the city but conveniently a two minute walk from my hostel. Friendly enough staff offering recommendations and tasters without question. Prices not exactly cheap but not quite eye-watering either. A must-visit for anyone visiting the city; from what I saw of Christchurch as the moment it’s THE place for beer in the city. Free warm bread and cheese brought round was a charming little bonus and I happily wiled away several hours here over conversation and cards.

Cozy place. Live music. Nice 31 taps, mainly nz beers. Little off the city but worth visiting.

Wonderful selection in Christchurch and the staff is very knowledgeable about the beer. Great food and service. Only knock would be the live music can make it impossible to hold a conversation. The outside beer garden is great. The little B&B next door is great!

This place feels like being in my living room, sitting in my favorite chair, but with better beer, better service, and better music. It was comfortably crowded on an early Tuesday evening, and owner Steve spotted me right away and pulled me into a behind-the-scenes tour of the place, complete with tastes from the brightening tanks in the brewery. In fact, the building started as a brewery in the 1880’s, and although a few buildings have been lost to the quake, it’s great to see an old brewery used for its original purpose. The rest of the staff were terrific, friendly and efficient. Food was very tasty. A young lady on guitar was tonight’s offering of live music, which is apparently on at least five days per week. I counted 31 taps from 22 breweries, all local except for one from Brewdog. All this, and I was able to walk just a few meters to my room at their B&B. This is the type of place that I aspire to own some day. Oh, and they have goldfish! What’s not to like?

Such a great pub, the staff seem to be able to give tasting notes of any of the 20+ beers available at one time, off the top of their heads.
Gets a bit loud in there sometimes, but it’s a pub and not a RSA, so can’t complain.
Always something new to try.
