76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 watson1977 (114) The dub c, Pennsylvania | March 4, 2013 Cool spot...a bit dim and divey with cool brick, hardwood, and stained glass...definitely not that modern. Parking is easy in the acme across the street. Nice draft selection and bottle selection. Small food menu but tasty and vegetarian friendly (pierogies were awesome and seitan cheesesteak was good too.). Helpful and friendly staff. Id go again. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 mansquito (56) Nueva York, New York | January 8, 2013 My friend used to work here, and I wish I had took advantage of him after having visited this place. The selection of beer is excellent. The prices are actually rather cheap. Plenty of sours and rare beers in bottles. The draft list had stuff I had never seen before, but I live in New York, so that might be the reason. The waitresses were nice and rather attentive. I have no idea if they knew anything about beer. The nachos we got were pretty dope as well. I wish there were fewer TVs, but you can’t win them all. I forget what music was playing, but that probably means it was not excessively horrible. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 jeremytoni (139) Swedesboro, New Jersey | September 14, 2012 Great selection of bottles and drafts with some pretty good food. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 Capa (248) Manama, Bahrain | August 5, 2012 Those who get to call this their neighborhood bar are truly a lucky bunch. Dark on the inside, medium noise level, awesome beers, super awesome staff. We stopped in after a Phillies game (beat the D-Backs 3-0) because I wanted to try some of the Troegs Scratch Series beers they had on. Wanted to sit at the bar but there were no open seats. Ordered from the barkeeper and he said no to grab a table and he’d transfer our tab to the waitress. Cool guy and quick with my beer. The waitress was real nice in a non-invasive and annoying kind of way. Came back at exactly the right time when I needed a new beer, got our food to us quick (it was only chips and salsa but still. Very tasty, I may add.). The place wasn’t super busy on a Saturday night but it was still kind of early. Seriously wish this was in my neighborhood as I would never leave. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 italianjohn (150) Penndel, Pennsylvania | July 3, 2011 Just celebrated 5 years ... Came highly recommended nice dark and old feel pub .... wooden seats, benches and brick walls, chalk boards told you what was on tap which was great ... a nasty tiny bathroom, but good service .... did not have the food and the beer list was diverse as well as the bottles .... They had pliny the elder on for 7 bucks and most taps were between 5 and 7 .... not a bad place to stop in and have a pint ... walking distance from pats and geno’s | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 jeff789 (9) West Chester, Pennsylvania | November 30, 2009 First time I’ve been to the P.O.P.E, just happened to be a random stop during a south philly cheesesteak/bar crawl... I was amazed at the selection.... Didn’t eat there so i cant comment on the food... But the prices seemed very competitive, ambiance was nice, friendly service to a group of 25 who randomly stopped in at 3PM on a saturday... | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 bloodybabboon (2) | June 6, 2009 Great draft selections, and a fantastic happy hour with half price drafts. Kitchen is under new management and the food has vastly improved. They get some really good stuff on draft that you don’t see around too often. Always a great crowd of friendly regulars and the bartenders and servers are awesome. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 redbarista (1) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | January 7, 2009 Totally decent bar, but by this point (it was last reviewed 23 months ago), it’s filled with way, way, too many 22-year-old hipsters at night. While it’s hard to hope that an excellent beer bar (both the selection and the staff are wonderful) would have the type of diverse neighborhood mix that, say, Dirty Frank’s would, the clientele generally keep me from going there on weekends after 9 p.m.
They’re doing a good job there, and my complaints are small and just represent one of the "downfalls" of success. Go there for a happy hour, during the day, or around 6 p.m., and I couldn’t think of many other bars I would want to go to. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 kkearn (22) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | February 21, 2007 Visited here with my girlfriend and a friend of ours who lives a few blocks from the P.O.P.E. 12 taps, with a good selection of locals, incliding Yards (Chateau Kenso kicked right before my visit), Sly Fox, Victory, Flying Fish, and DFH. Also had Rogue, Hoegaarden, Bass, Stella and Guinness, and Woodchuck. Fairly good bottle selection as well. We sat a table and were served by the bartender, who made sure our glasses were never empty for long. Food was above average, I had a very tasty spinach dip, and a chicken parm sandwich. My girlfriend was a big fan of her grilled cheese sandwich. Good Jukebox. I had a great time here, and will definitely return. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 xproudfoot (37) Paleolithic, Pennsylvania | July 8, 2006| Updated January 8, 2008 2008: The POPE has a wide, constantly changing, and interesting selection of beers. It’s a comfortable place to drink, everybody is made to feel welcome and all anyone asks of you is you not be rude, otherwise you can do and be what you want here. For my money, it’s the best bar in the area. The staff works hard, if you are kind and generous to them, they will treat you the same. You get a wider mix of people here than other spots in the area which seem to have a narrower clientele and as a result, don’t feel as friendly as the POPE. It is easy to have a good conversation with just about anyone here. |
