68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 lada66 (131) Savonlinna, Finland | October 1, 2012 Wetherspoon selection, Greene King and Adnams beers. My choice was Banks & Taylor Mad Hatter 4,2% (2010). | 54 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 10/20 Cuso (94) Bratislava, Slovak Republic | April 25, 2012 Quite good selection of ales, staff was quite quick. Upstairs area is nice. Anyway if I didn’t stay in hotel near Regal, I wouldn’t visit this pub. Too crowded for me. | 62 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 13/20 Fin (368) Merton, Oxfordshire, England, England | April 16, 2012 Have visited here frequently most recently in March 2012 (I think) though we did pop in here on Saturday 14th April 2012 but the place was heaving with those watching the Grand National so bar far too busy and a quick visit to the loos was all we could be bothered with. Like many JDW’s this suffers from poor lighting and a distinct lack of natural light, this is one of my greatest criticisms of a JDW pub. The beer selection is usually pretty good in here and there is often a smattering of locally sourced beers. Food service was very swift on my last visit and beer well kept. This is a very large JDW and one that is easy to find from the centre of town. | 58 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 12/20 Benjii (63) Edinburgh, Scotland | December 2, 2011 Not the worst Wetherspoons I’ve been in. A decent selection of real ale, standard JDW food and a little outdoor smoking area. Upstairs seating area is the nicest part IMO. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 15/20 hughie (25) Bedford, England | September 29, 2011 I really like this pub, and it’s not often I say that about a ’Spoons. Once a 1930’s cinema, it has been symathetically converted to a large, airy pub, without losing the retro charm, even down to the typical old-fashioned cinema doors. I remember going to the flicks in places like this in Southampton in the sixties. Beer selection was excellent, breakfast was fast and cheap. Also, being early, I had the palce to myself. | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 FatPhil (251) Tallinn, Estonia | February 6, 2011 New cellar master (mistress) since 2010 - completely unrecognisable beer-quality-wise from what it was like in the past. (Was the 2nd worst spoons ever, now probably the best spoons, IMHO.).
Pucker value tasty meals as in all JDWs. Constantly changing beers - 2-3 regular real ales, and 6-8 continually changing ones. Every one (out of 10 or more) we had was in tip-top condition, and you’re guaranteed a couple of new beers each day due to the turnover. (Previously, it would be 9 fucked up ones out of 10, for reference.)
A real positive contribution to the Cambridge beer map. Don’t go there during amateurs’ nights, if you can help it, it’s a bit noisy. Fortunately, the 3am closing time thins out the drinking, so there’s no mad rush at 10-ish. |
