A large Wetherspoon’s pub in the old Regal cinema. I remember it well from my youth! It has retained some of its original art deco character and, whilst cavernous, it’s also somehow quite cosy. When we visited in the late afternoon on Christmas Eve it was quiet and relaxed with a very mixed demographic, although I’m told that on normal days it can be like a community centre for older people in the mornings and like a nightclub for the town’s youngsters in the evenings. There are eighteen taps with a good range of beers including several from local breweries and all the beers we tried were in very good condition. (Last visited 24 December 2012).

Extensive traditional Wetherspoon with a small patio out front useful for the warmer months. There’s no shortage of space on the inside with a bar fully stocked with the usual menu and various guest ales.
