A very cosy little pub located in the Georgian Quarter of town. Four small rooms, one snug room for watching TV (football), the others for talking and drinking. Music free. Two regular cask ales and four guests. The guest beers can be bought in one-third pint glasses and served on a sample tray. Julie who served us was talkative and service minded. This pub is one of seven pubs in Britain that have been in every edition of the Good Beer Guide for 40 years. Likable place, full score for the ambiance (Visited on a Sunday eve, 07.04.2013).

Visited his pub 16/1-2012. Another stop on the magic Liverpool Pubcrawl Tour. Traditionel small pub, with several smaller rooms. Think the locals really enjoy coming on this cosy pub, and so did I ;-). Very friendly staff, a funny little thing is that on the tables are placed bells so you can ring for service ( though I don´t think it will work today )..

Even if a foreigner I felt myself like at home and welcome , the landlady behind the bar was very nice with me and always smiling.. They have 8 handpumps with 2 regalar beers and 6 changing.. The atmosfere is simply great the bere well kept .. You can not ask for nothing better .. A real gem and a pub like is always harder to find ... The PLACE in Liverpool !!

This is a proper pub. Not flashy, no gimmicks, just an honest boozer. As you walk up past the burnt out (WW11 Bombed) church on your way to The Phili, the side street on the left, has this pub just 10 yards along it. Small front bar counter on the left, and a slightly larger back room with tables and chairs, almost a lounge really. The back room is served from the rear of the front bar, not a hatch, just an open ended counter. Locals and a few people in the know, frequent this place, the Jennings Beers are always in tip top condition. If you like plush, opulent palaces to drink in, this is not for you. If you like good company and good Real Ale, then find this bar while in Liverpool, it is almost halfway up the hill to The Phili, and everyone goes there, so stop off on the journey and have a pint in here too.

A simply furnished, cosy pub with three small rooms and a choice of around six cask beers. It’s named after the anti-slave trade campaigner, William Roscoe. (Visited 16 January 2012).

Small pub hidden in Roscoe Str. I was lucky to have my accomodation just 500 meters from this pub, cause I had the chance to come there twice and enjoy some pints. Not loudy and crowdy as Ship and Mitre, not touristic like the Baltic Fleet, just a true and down-to-earth english pub that does the job. Prices for a pint are £ 2,85, which invites you to drink more and more

Always nice to drop in here as it was one of my old haunts during my university days at Liverpool back in the 1970s. It was a real ale mecca back then as there was not much cask beer (except Higsons) around town in those days and a pint of Tetleys was something of an exotic treat. There’s a lot more beery competition in Liverpool these days, so it’s not quite the beer mecca it was but I’d still regard as an essential stop. There are a few guest pumps that might have something of interest. Otherwise the place is pretty much unchanged. Cosy and traditional boozer with original period fittings and several small rooms. Haven’t eaten there.

Very nice and cosy, traditional pub tucked away from the buzz. Small bar with three small rooms leading off from the central corridor. Six real ales, tried a spicy and gingery, well kept Anglo Dutch Dusk till Dawn on my visit in July 2009. Friendly and efficient service. Definitely worth a visit.
