80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Dogbrick (567) Columbus, Ohio | December 31, 2012 (Visited 11/2012): Salt House is located in Galway off Father Griffin on Raven Terrace, which my GPS had a hell of a time finding. It is right on the Claddagh Quay inlet. There is metered street parking on Raven Terrace.
The inside is small, with the bar immediately on the left past the entrance, with some table seating in the rear. Hanging flags and soccer on a large projection screen. There is also a stone fireplace. The bar offers a view of the taps as well as a chalkboard listing what is on draught, including "beers on death row".
Salt House’s draught list amounts to 16 taps with breweries like Galway Bay, Galway Hooker, Trouble Brewing and 8°. Around 50 bottles from the likes of Nogne, Mikkeller, Southern Tier, and BrewDog. A 3-beer sampler called a "bat" is available for 4.95, and they also have a loyalty program.
Service on a busy evening at the bar was good. The bartender was knowledgeable about their beers as well as other good beer spots in Galway.
I don’t believe Salt House serves food.
Overall this is a cool little beer bar to visit in Galway. | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 garthicus (54) Dublin, Ireland | January 13, 2011 As great as it gets in Ireland. Roll over Porterhouse & friends, this is a true craftbeer bar. Between a great tap list and an EXCELLENT bottle selection and great pricing. This place rocks. A MUST visit if in Galway. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 20/20 jctoys007 (1) | February 9, 2010 One of the best Ranges I have ever seen. They also had a hand pull ale, which I was told was the only bar in Galway that does this. They had run out though when I was there. Only travelling through with friends, but if Im ever in Galway again im not going to go anywhere else but there! | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 jredmond (161) Manhattan, New York | August 12, 2009| Updated February 24, 2011 This is a "must-visit" if you are in Galway. One of the only bars that offers more than the traditional 5-macro beer Irish line up. On tap you will find a couple of Galway Hooker Drafts (Dark Wheat and Irish Pale Ale as of 8.08.09), Hoegarden, and a few others. A huge bottle selection separated by country. The bartender was extremely friendly when we visited which only added to the experience. |
