Nice and cosy pub with a nice selection of beers. Music not too loud and varied from jazz to techno and onwards to hard rock. Good service and good condition on the beers.

Historic pub in central Bristol,known for its role in the anti-slavery campaign. Has an ever changing selection of up to 8 real ales, with the majority being from west country brewers, including smaller ones rarely seen in Bristol such as Stroud, Quantock, Prescott, Nailsworth and Halfpenny. Also has well chosen beers from further afield from the likes of Dark Star and Crouch Vale. Prices are very good, with most ales being £2.70 all day on Wednesday and during happy hours at other times of the week, and at all times for CAMRA members. No food other than crisps, nuts and pickled eggs. Service is friendly and efficient. On the route from Temple Meads to the city centre and well worth a visit. Bristol CAMRA pub of the year 2010 & 2011. From summer 2010 has started selling real ciders and perries - 4 Hecks, 3 Richs and 1 Hartlands when I lasted visited. Also holds a monthly geographical beer festival, starting on the first Monday and lasting until Thursday - about 25 counties have been covered so far, with 20 beers being available over the four day period.

Very cosy old pub in the central Bristol. Extremely friendly staff, great beers they change often. Lots of locals who also are very friendly and talkative. Will definately return on my next visit to Bristol.

We visited here on 27th Dec 2011, it was getting very difficult to find a pub that was open, with the Barley Mow, Three Tuns, Zerodegrees and Green Man all closed most frustrated but a good walk. There were quite a number of folk in here, very friendly with the locals trying to help us find other pubs that might be open on this Bank Holiday Tuesday. Beer choice very decent with Raw Grey Ghost IPA, Moor Amor, Funnel Tunnel Blower and a new one (to me) from a brewery called Plain (Salisbury Plain area I guess) though I never got to try the Plain. Really decent pub, will happily visit again.

Great old pub, although we had a strange 30 minutes in there as a punk band was playing next door in the Fleece and we stood there with a load of punk rockers with pink and green hair and rings hanging out of their cheeks! Still the beer was good and it’s a must if you are in the area looking for some good beer.

Good selection of beer from the west country. Pleasant atmosphere and cheerfull staff. Certainly worth a visit
