70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 15/20 AndySnow (44) Stockholm, Sweden | April 1, 2013 Small place that is half store half stand up bar. Same price if you get it there or take away. Just grab what you want from the fridges in back and pay in front. Great selection of sake, even if I’m not a sake expert. Great selection of Nagano micros. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 shoulderbroken (120) Tokyo, Japan | November 14, 2012| Updated May 17, 2013 Amazing place. Went on a Wednesday afternoon and it was just me a couple of old sake-drinking men. Barman was very helpful and really friendly. Prices are very good and the selection is nice too. Quite unusual to drink bottles here. Saying that, I did have the two taps and then went on to sake. Sake selection was bewildering so went with the recommendation of the barman. Tasting set of three for ¥500. Pretty good value. Was speaking to someone who said it gets busy in the evening, but the weekday afternoon thing really worked for me. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 EdKing (101) London, England | June 24, 2012| Updated May 17, 2013 Told about this by TimE. Came out the wrong side of Shimbashi and ended up walking around the wrong arcade market. Found it in the end. Inside a shopping centre/ arcade. Fridge of beers did not seem to be accessible in person an I had to try and communicate what I wanted. Managed to get some Shiga Kogens, but not everything I wanted. Guy tried to be helpful though. Good little spot off the beaten track. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 15/20 jonno (105) , Japan | November 12, 2011 A place to buy great Nagano beer (Shiga Kogen,Yoho, OhLaHo etc) ans sake for cellar door prices and drink on premises. Not much more to say. Small, non descript hang out otherwise. Great place to drink good beer without having to drink it on the street like a barbarian! | 70 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 15/20 KyotoLefty (350) Kyoto, Japan | April 13, 2009| Updated August 27, 2012 This is a great place to chill for a bit and drink some Nagano beers cheaply in bottles or cans. No chairs, so you won’t be here all night, but the beers are good and the food cheap and tasty. You’ll find some beers that are not available elsewhere in the capital. Lots of sake too. | 80 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 TimE (216) Tokyo, Japan | January 1, 2009| Updated May 12, 2011 What a little find. Located in a very old, very uncool looking building near Shimbashi station (the building can be accessed directly from an exit on the Asakusa line). The place has been around for eons as it is owned by the Nagano Prefectural government to promote Nagano food and alcohol in Tokyo. It is essentially a retail store, however, I think 90% of customers are there to imbibe as it also a standing bar. They have 12-15 Nagano micros, including seasonal beers in bottles (Minami Shinshu, Shiga Kogen, Oh La Ho, etc). They also have 30-40 sakes, which can be drunk individually or in sampler set. There is also small portions of Nagano food available, though dont expect a hefty meal. Now here is the really interesting thing, there is no mark-up on the stuff from retail prices. Even the food is priced at 300 yen and then goes down. You can get several items for 100yen (all very healthy). Staff is very friendly and speak a bit of English. Cheapest place to drink in Tokyo hands down.
Update- They counter area has expanded, the number of craft breweries has grown and they get in hard core, rare stuff, like Shiga Kogen Saion one. This places seriously is an absolute must. WOW. Cool and great line up. |
