This is a traditional styled pub that mixes old with new within its open plan ground floor area where the bar takes centre-stage. The seating area is all around it with a small wall separating the front daylight lit room from the enclosed, always synthetically lit area. Itís a fairly relaxed place to drink, but itís certainly not the decor you come here for, it has a fine selection of cask ales, cask ciders, keg ales and lagers that might keep you here all day even if you werenít planning to stay that long! The many rotating cask pumps are all spaced out in the full 360 degrees of the oval shaped serving area so itís certainly worth making a loop of it before you make your first decision - which probably wonít be your final one in here! Thereís several fridges against a wall in the middle of the pub that carry a small but possibly interesting to some collection of chilled bottled beers.

Probably the largest selection beer wise in Liverpool, even more so when they do a festival. Nice wooden dťcor with different places to sit (one bar has daylight pouring in the other is dark!) Can get busy so best go lunchtime or mid afternoon.

Decent place for craft beer. Some local breweries and real ale available. Quite good selection on bottle from Belgium and USA. By far the bet place in Liverpool.

Probably the best pub Iíve been into in the UK. Lots of real ales on cask, good German, Belgian and American selection on tap and bottle. I could go in here everyday for the next year and not try the same beer twice.

Appears to get heavy traffic from locals and visitors alike. Fairly basic pub but with a diverse mix of cask, draught and bottles. Look for whatís on hand pump. I canít say I was overly excited about the tap and bottle selection. Nice central location.

The rating is not high because Iím not a big fan of real ale. Although, this pub looks and feels great. Typical english style. many real ales, not too many craft beer like IPAís, IIPAís, imperial stouts etc. Very popular and crowded.

One of the best real ale pubs I have ever been to.

Great pub. Good range of traditional cask stuff, then on t of that they have some basic craft beers in keg, some nice German lagers in keg, and a solid range of bottles - American, Belgian, etc. great value. Friendly, down-to-earth staff. The aeathetic of this place is íworn-iní. OK location, a relatively short walk from the Lime Street train station. Definitely a highlight in Liverpool.

excellent selection of cask beers available by the third, extensive bottle list, cheap but effective food menu ordered direct from the kitchen. various seating areas, reading library, perhaps a tad understaffed for Monday afternoon, took a while to be served but shows the pub is well patronised. Most beers below £3. local and further afield, good variety of styles and house beers too. A must
