68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 14/20 iowaherkeye (29) Ocean Beach, San Diego, California | January 17, 2013| Updated January 30, 2013 21 and over, cash only. Street parking, or else there’s a public lot just west of the building. 22ish taps, mostly CA stuff. Always have a couple Ballast Point seasonals on--currently Victory at Sea and Tongue Buckler--and served in shaker pints. Fish tacos are pretty great--standard is on a flour tortilla (untraditional), so I ask them for corn. $3.50ish per taco (wahoo, Mahi, shark, fried pollock, fried oyster, ceviche, steak). They don’t necessarily know their beer, but service is usually prompt and friendly. Will also give samples if you don’t know what to drink. They almost always have Sculpin and Trumer Pils, which the latter is a winner for me, especially pairing with the tacos. Has upper and lower floors, great view of the ocean and OB Pier, so you can wander out there afterwards, or stop next door for a waffle ice cream sandwich at the Lighthouse ice cream joint. Enough flat screen TVs to catch the game.
Man. Haven’t rated a place in forever, but how South Beach isn’t in the database is beyond me. Visited here three effing years ago! |
