Okay brewpub, parking in the open lots across the street and a parking garage nearby. Pretty standard brewpub atmosphere. Friendly service, slowed a bit towards the end of our visit. 11 house beers on draft and one from Blue Mountain. They have a shandy available year-round, who knows why. Didnít try the food but it sounded like average pub fare. Okay beers, nothing really stood out to me. Okay stop if youíre place ticking nearby but I wouldnít go out of my way just for this.

This is a modernly renovated restaurant/bar/brewery pouring twelve of the South Street brews on tap. The beers are not the most exciting by any means but brewed OK. Stock standard brewpub fare like burgers, sandwiches and salads etc. Staff were fine.

UPDATE: 12/16/14. South Street was recently purchased by Blue Mountain and completely refurbished. Ratings entered before the fall of 2014 arenít really relevant anymore. Anyway, this place has received a facelift. The place is still cavernous and feels more like a restaurant than a bar. The food menu looks tasty if pricy. Swag and merchandise is tackily available at a booth right when you enter the brewpub. The beer recipes have also been tweaked. Unfortunately, I canít say that the beerís really improved. On my most recent visit I tried a flight of all 12 house beers. About half were obviously flawed. The lager styles all had problems with DMS. Other beers were strangely astringent. Only one beer was better than mediocre (JP Pale). Overall, come to check out the refurb, but donít hang around for drinks. Honestly, Iím surprised that a solid brewery like Blue Mountain havenít sorted out the house beers. Shame.
09/05/13 Bizarrely empty during my 11pm visit on a Friday night. Maybe the townies went into hiding? Anyway, the layoutís pretty cavernous. Plenty of places to sit and relax. The barís probably 50 feet long. On the plus side, South Street offered plenty of their house beers. Unfortunately, none of them were particularly impressive. Prices were acceptable, though certainly not cheap. The service was friendly, kind. This is the kind of place to accumulate ticks at then visit sporadically.

New review after the renovation. Old review follows below. Just purchased by Blue Mountain, this place was closed for a few months and re-opened with a new line of beers and a new atmosphere. I visited opening night and it was crowded, despite that I got good service. The layout is the same, and some major features were preserved including the large central fire-place and the bar back. New long bar identical to the old one in shape, atmosphere widened and booths have all been converted to tables. All in all, the combination of old and new feels comfortable. Parking is obviously the same. The lot across the street is free after 6 or so, but it can get tricky as it serves for parking for all of downtown. I usually have no problem. 12 taps now, serving new recipes as well as old. Old recipes might be tweaked or changed significantly. Beers were old solid and the two old recipes I tried were improvements over the old recipes. Full pours are 4.50 to 5 and six beer flights are 5. The flights are set but I was able to substitute two beers with no problem. The hours are much better than the old place, 11AM-1AM. Good, cheap beer in a good atmosphere, I will be here a lot.
Nice atmosphere though it can get really crowded at times. It doesnít open until 4 or 5, which sucks when a bunch of us get off of work at 3:30 and want a pint or two. On site brews range from bland and boring to excellent. Iíve only had the tostada, but it was excellent. Sampler for $6. Parking gets crowded, but there is a pay lot directly across the street that is 50 cents an hour or free after 6PM. 4/7/12/7/7/14/74

A mediocre neighborhood brewpub. A selection of several taps, all of which are drinkable, some are better. The bar service is always pretty good, sometimes faster. The food is good. They also have live music sometimes. If youíre going to go here, do it on Tuesdays.

(Midwest í12 backlog) Visited 14/09/2012. Pretty big place, slowly half-filled for happy hour. Located downtown, an easy stroll from the UVA campus. Nice, slightly clinical big bar area, with glass wall opening up onto fermentors. About 10 own offerings on tap, 1.25/4oz samples and good happz hour pint prices. Beers are in the upper mid range of brewpub bland, clean with potential. Tasty snacks, e.g. well done nachos. Friendly down-to-earth barmaid.

We walked here, and easy reach from the mall, but there is also a bit of street parking and some pay lots. The place is large, with a long bar that runs the length. We did flights, reasonably priced. The beer was OK, but nothing to write home about. Friendly staff. Didnít try the food.

I enjoyed a meal and several beers at the brewpub in the Spring of 2013. It had a nice, modern ambiance with plenty of open space, and the service was friendly and reliable. They had a respectable selection of their own brews, but nothing spectacular. The food was quite good and complimented the beer nicely. It had a fair and reasonable value, and was an enjoyable experience overall.

Stopped in here for a last beer before heading back to Richmond yesterday. I remember liking the beer here more before we started exploring craft more. This place had the best ambiance of all the places we visited, nice and cozy and with a little character. The service was speedy and friendly and she seemed to know her stuff/love beer. Nice selection of their own brews. Good prices ($3.5 every day until 6:30pm) but I didnít like their brew quite as well as the other places we visited. Too full to sample the menu, but what we saw going to other tables at least looked good.
