64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 Brugmansia (256) Jylland, Denmark | February 11, 2013 Visited on the 19/1-2013.
Small cosy pub, with very friendly staff. Nice deco and lots of pictures on the walls. Beers in good condition, seems very much as a pub for the locals. | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (389) London, England | February 8, 2013 One of my favourite pubs during my day out in Cambridge. It’s a small place, but on a chilly Saturday afternoon in February, with some Six Nations rugby on the TV, a small crowd and good-drinkin’ ales on tap, it was just about the perfect pub. Very low-key vibe, good range of beers - not just low ABV goldens and bitters. Good value, friendly bartender. Has a very ’local’ feel to it. I would happily pass a few hours in here with a book. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 lada66 (131) Savonlinna, Finland | October 1, 2012 A nice, small place to have some good real ales. Milton beers often available (2010,2011). | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 Fin (368) Merton, Oxfordshire, England, England | April 16, 2012 Visited here Sunday 15th April 2012 with Loz and this was the first time that we’d been here for about 5+ years. I have to say this really wasn’t as good as I recalled, the pub smelt and not pleasantly at that with a mixture of sweat, mustiness and old cheese. I asked for a half and got a pint and I have to say I didn’t find it particularly welcoming. However to be fair the beer that I had namely Brentwood Boston Brown whilst not my cup of tea was in very good nick and clearly well kept, Loz had Nethergate Barfly again well kept but just not that interesting, we were gagging for something hoppy but found nothing today, maybe I should have had one of the Milton beers? Both left here feeling a bit disappointed, this pub clearly has great history and who knows on another day I might have flet very different but sadly today it did nothing for us at all. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 FatPhil (251) Tallinn, Estonia | September 28, 2011 Tiny little place, just at the end of the pub crawl known as the kings’ street run. Milton beers always a plus. Good selection of other quality beers too. Can get claustrophobic when busy, but quite like someone’s lounge when it’s quiet. Staff were traditionally great, as befitting a cosy pub. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 oh6gdx (155) Vasa, Finland | August 10, 2010 Nice and cosy place with a good selection of cask beer and also some ciders. Quite quick service. A bit hot inside as it was quite crowded. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (306) London, England | August 9, 2010 Visited on 29 July 2010. A small, quirky place which, unlike most of the decent boozers in Cambridge is quite close to the city centre. Used to be part of the famous King Street Run - a pub crawl of 8 pubs on the same street. Well, I suppose it still is but only 3 or 4 of the pubs are still open (one of which is crap) so its not much of a crawl these days. Expect half a dozen varying cask beers including a couple from Milton. Extra Selection point for the two Milton beers made exclusively for the pub (not rebadges) - Habit and Sackcloth - although they are not permanently available. However, neither was on when I visited this time, so I’ve deducted it again. One drawback is that the place didn’t open until 5pm on weekdays but there has been a recent change of ownership and allegedly it is now open all day. Unfortunately, on this visit (after 5pm) I forgot to check that out. The change of ownership means it won’t be in next years Good Beer Guide. No food. I like this place. |
