78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 BMMillsy (33) Florida | May 11, 2013| Updated May 16, 2013 Neat little spot back in the industrial area. Nice bar area, and tables let you sit among the brewing equipment, semi-outside. They have more bottles these days, and will be canning this summer. Bottles available in the tap room. Also have CCB and some other Florida stuff on tap. Grabbed some one-off special releases yesterday, and was able to get 3 of each. Nicely run, but they ran out quickly since it is such a small place. That’s OK, I got my full allotment. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 chinchill (17) South Carolina | March 28, 2013| Updated May 16, 2013 Way nicer experience than I expected upon arrival at the industrial warehouse parking area. Very nice and knowledgeable service, attractively priced beer flight, a few guest taps, and some fine woodwork here and there. Growler fills and bomber bottles to go. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 PorterPounder (244) Tallahassee, Florida | March 20, 2013| Updated May 16, 2013 Stopped by here on a Tuesday afternoon just after they opened and the crowd was already rolling in. Simple but nicely decorated tasting room attached to the brewery. Have about five of their standards on tap with a few rotating specials and handful of regional guest taps. Place had a nice friendly vibe to it - both the clientele and the staff. Beer was solid - wish they had a few more one offs - but not a major detractor. Will make this a regular stop on my way through Gainesville - right off the interstate. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 erickok (87) Tours, France | September 26, 2012| Updated May 16, 2013 Situated in an industrial area, and simply decorated tap room, but still manages to get a nice atmosphere in here. Did a Tuesday night tour here, which was lead very knowledgeable and interestingly. Very well priced as well, with one beer and a glass you can keep. Enough time for questions too. The tasting room itself offers all their standard beers, some seasonals and some specials. I really like their brews, with Nidnight Oil being my favourite standard offering, but the special I had was great as well - a red wine barrel-aged dark saison. Good stuff. In a way it’s a shame that they doesn’t bottle there beers, but with their very natural and healthy growth this seems like a matter of time. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 PaulUnwin (96) Pinellas Park, Florida | August 26, 2012| Updated May 16, 2013 We went during the day so there was no other customers there, service was top notch and plenty of Swamphead beers to choose from, it was August last year, and they even had a fire to keep us warm, haha!! | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 apjbeer (2) Florida | April 26, 2012| Updated May 16, 2013 Enjoyed the open area and the beer selection was great | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 markwise (157) North of Tampa, Florida | January 26, 2012| Updated September 9, 2012 I don’t know Gainesville, so God bless the GPS for helping me find this one. Nice tasting room facility adjacent to the brewery. They have the complete portfolio of Swamp Head beers, and the occasional limited release. They had bottles of Saison du Swamp when I was there. They offer growlers, as allowed by Florida law. Nice beers, small room, but it was also a Friday. They have some awesome events and some great beer. I look forward to coming back periodically to watch them grow. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 GT2 (345) Riverslime, California | November 9, 2011| Updated September 9, 2012 Went here for the Saison du Swamp release and again just for relaxing with friends. A pretty small place in an industrial park behind the Target and a bunch of apartment complexes off Archer and I-75. Easy to get to and pretty centrally located by Gainesville standards. This operates as almost a nano-brewery, very small capacity, with some very nice equipment and small tasting room. You can wander around the small brewery or sit outside on a small sitting around that is sometimes roped off. Bar is cramped but has a good selection of almost all of their beers plus guest taps including Cigar City stuff. Interior decor is like a temple unto Cigar City; their obvious idols.
It has been fun to see this place grow from a simple idea I heard about a few years ago to a tangible product. Someone’s dream came true and regardless; I think we can all be proud Gainesville finally has its own microbrewery. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 craftbeerdesign (100) Alpharetta, Georgia | July 23, 2011| Updated April 8, 2012 very small brewery off Archer Rd in Gainesville - very easy access off I-75. In a little warehouse district. The taproom is fairly small and is attached to the brewery. The brewery is still young and offers some good choices + they have guest taps (Cigar City). I had one beer on my way down to Tampa. Was fairly busy while I was there on an early Friday evening. Will stop by next time to get a growler filled. Nice to see a craft brewery in Gainesville. Offers growlers of their standard offerings. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 HonusWagner (11) Florida | May 26, 2011 Modeled very closely after the CCB model, small tasting room to the left of the brewing area. Brewing area is free to roam around, I’ve only been there during events so far but people tend to be sitting around on all sorts of palettes and such. Pretty quick service despite being crowded, and value is solid if not spectacular for a brewpub. Selection comes down to your opinion of Swamp Head beers. I am of the opinion that they are merely pretty good, so my selection score won’t be too high. It’s nice to have a brewery in town though, and it’s great to see their business succeeding. |
