Probably the best keg/cask pub in Edinburgh and there’s constant rotation. Bottle selection less exciting but that’s not what they’re about. I’ve never seen it ever quiet. Overall, another step in the progression of good beer in Edinburgh.

Easily the best beer bar in Edinburgh. The Hanging Bat is a split level with a good amount of seating. Power-raters will be glad to hear that all beers are available in 1/3ds...but weirdly enough not pints (although this doesn’t bother me). Beer selection is spot-on, it’s clear to me the people in charge know what’s going on in the UK beer scene well. Tap selection seems to rotate frequently. Helpful and knowledgeable staff all-round. Great place and probably one of the best in the UK.

Many thx Craig - this is the place to go to in Edinburgh. Great selection, loads of cask and kegs, rotating frequently. Mostly brittish stuff a few American, Belgian etc stuff. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, nice interor + for the nice and clean wc’s ++ for tapp handles at the sinks. Children allowed, and the food should be grate - didn’t have the time to try it out this time. Close to city center 15min walk. Check their Twitter - always update vs the cask and keg list...

Cracking bar near the centre of town. cask ales and craft on keg. Amazing selection with an extensive bottle range. Staff very well trained and helpful. Very cool layout but does get very busy at weekends. One of the best bars in Edinburgh.

A new craft beer bar 10 mins walk from Haymarket Station. 6 cask, 14 keg ales plus an amazing selection of bottles. Sells 1/3 & 2/3 pints. Food range limited to snacks and hotdogs but the quality is good. Prices satisfactory for this type of establishment. Service good, knowledgeable staff. Overall this is arguably the most interesting & best beer bar in Scotland

Well ive given this place time to settle to get a better feel for it. So here goes. The hanging bat has a lot to recomend it, 14 Keg lines and 6 Cask lines as well as a considerable bottle selection. But its not not all about the numbers its the care taken in the selection. With the likes of Kernel, magic Rock and Harbour, on regularly as part of the rotating guest list, and the likes of Hawkshead , Moor and Luckie forming part of there Permenant theres a Garentee of Interesting beers and Its not uncommon to find 4-5 beers above 6% on at any one time. But this place has more to offer than just beer. The layout and Decor make this a very comfortable bar, some where you can easily pop into for a 10 minute quicky or spend several hour being slowly seduced by its delights. Food is well done and well priced, offering filling and snacky alternatives. With Regular meet the brewer events its possible to see 10-20 brews from one of the more intersting UK breweries on at the same time. But for me the one thing that puts the Icing on the Cake is that it Allows Children. While Edinburgh has many great pubs sadly too many of them are not child friendly, so to find a Bar this good that we can go out as a family to is a delight.

Visited on Saturday 08/12/12 around 2.30pm. Split level bar, with an upstairs which was closed, lots of wood, leather sofas, bench seats really smart and well though out decor - the sort of place my non beer drinking girlfriend would be comfortable with ! Not too many folks in when I arrived but trade soon picked up. Beer selection was 4 cask and a dozen or so keg, all from UK brewers roughly 50% Scottish 50% English. Had a chilli dog which was decent, Haggis dog also looked good! Beers available in 1/3rd, 1/2 or 2/3rd pints - you can’t get a pint! Doesn’t bother me as 1/3rds are ideal for getting through some rates but not being able to have a pint may put some folks off! Overall a decent venue, I was expecting a bit more variety fom the draft list in terms of some US or Scandanavian brewers but I was told that the draft list on my visit was a little short on numbers/variety compared to normal.

Opened Nov 2012. With 6 casks, 14 kegs and 100 bottles, easily one for the beer raters to flock to. Friendly and experienced staff that let’s you try stuff and a relaxed ambience makes this the best beer pub in Edinburgh. Few marks off as some of the exotic bottles are overpriced. Haven’t tried any of the food.
