I was fortunate to visit this place a few weeks ago as a guest of some business associates who knew I liked craftbeer. Well the couldnít have picked a better place to introduce me to the MSP craft beer scene. With 76 taps this place is amazing...especially given all the local craft beer featured that I cannot access back in NJ/NY. The place is large on two floors with a dark wood theme. There are bars and taps on both floors (depending on what you order the server has to go to a different floor to get your beer). I found the staff extremely friendly (after 4 days in the MSP area I realize friendliness is a given in these parts!)...as well as helpful and informative. As others have said...the food here is great...I would say gastropub quality. Overall The Gnome is a must visit on any travels through the MSP area...and also a very enjoyable place for those who arenít necessarily into craft beers.

Visited on a Monday evening. First of all, the tap list here is really quite astounding. It features some rather rare or limited brews. All served in excellent condition. However, I was disappointed that four of the five beers I really wanted to sample (from their web site beer menu) were not available -- the online tap list menu hadnít been updated for about one week. Even the printed beer list was from the previous day. The server was a bit snotty when I asked about that -- "Hey, we change about ten taps a day." In addition, the beer prices are way out of line ($12 for a 10oz. Founderís??? or $20 for a sampler flight of five 4oz. glasses???) Second, the food is pretty good here. But, like the beer, it is not very reasonably priced. The cheese plate and charcuterie prices are absurd. Even bread, which should be free with the high-priced items here, costs $2. A friend mentioned that she thought that this place is undergoing an identity crisis -- whether to be the premier beer bar in the Twin Cities or to be an upscale gastropub. The atmosphere is fine. The clientele seems predominantly middle-aged yuppie. Lotsa suits and ties. Service was okay, and they must have topped up our water glasses at least ten times. They do have many special beer events. So, overall, Iíd say go here to find some brews you havenít had before. But be prepared for sticker shock. This is the priciest beer bar Iíve visited in this region.

This place has an awesome selection of brews. The surprise at this establishment is that the food doesnít suck. Not only does it not suck, but itís very good, too. With that I was extremely elated due to the aforementioned. The service is great and the vibe is nice. There are some yuppies that go here, and bring their kids, which I absolutely hate, but the kids werenít too terrible. However, I still donít like kids at establishments like this where a premise is lots of beer to drink. Anyways, I canít say anything that hasnít been said before -- great place, great service, and a must stop while in St. Paul.

My new benchmark for gastro pub type restaurants. Sat at the bar on a busy August Saturday night. Bartender was prompt and knowledgable about the food menu for the night, and about the many styles of beer on tap. I focused on Belgian and sour beers to accompany a salad and the chefís charcuterie platter (delicious!), and had many options to choose from: Rodenbock Grand Cru, a Bellís sour mash, and Duvel all on tap. Big windows onto a quiet street of shops. Lots of wood on the interior. Bustling kitchen. The place has the ambiance of a very popular neighborhood treasure - all tables were full and noisy, inside and outside - and there was a wedding party going on upstairs.

Visited August 17, 2013.
Walked in while killing time before the grand tasting, so it was the middle of the day and not overly busy. Most of the tables were open and we went looking for some of the other Ratebeer people but the server followed us and told us there were no tables available (despite only half of them being used). We sat at the bar instead and ordered some flights. Since we were the only ones at the bar the service was prompt. 5 samples for $15. These were four oz samples too. It was unfortunate but it is what it is. Seems to be the best selection in St Paul by a decent margin (from what Iím told) but Iím not sure Iíd return unless it was for some ticks.

This place is located in an old building in what seems like a hip little neighborhood. Luckily the restaurant has a parking lot connected. High ceilings in the bar area area, the dining area to the left is more intimate. They had over 70 taps of cheryl solid craft with a some locals a clip,e of rarities peeking through. It was Sunday night so the vibe was pretty chill. I can imagine this place gets loud when full. The bartender seemed to know a lot about beer and made a couple of good suggestions. I think most people would be lucky to have a place of the quality in their neighborhood.

Donít you love it when a place has the highest rating in the area, and you go there and it actually lives up to it? We went here for brunch. It was great. There were two guys playing live music. The beer list was really amazing. The service was nice and knowledgeable but not overbearing. If you like beer and are in the Minneapolis/St Paul area, this is a MUST visit.

A bit more sophisticated and much care given to the customer. I was impressed with the beer selection on tap and in the bottle and was much more impressed with the whiskey menu. The food was amazing, much better than I expected. The menu was modern and a nice variety without being afraid to do daring things. I went to heaven while eating my short rib dinner and beet salad. The bartender even let us pick our own 5 beers for a custom flight. My favorite of the night was the Somersby cider.

Great cozy little place with a great beer selection. Lots of MN and WI beers plus other top quality ones from around the country and Belgium. Food is also awesome, having the Wild Boar Meatloaf now. Definitely will be back next time I'm in the area.
