We (me, Loz, Ferret & Dena) visited here Saturday 8th December 2012. We actually walked past this place over the river and up the incline on the other side before realising our error and walking back here. The pub was a simple, just out of the town centre establishment, perhaps slightly tired and a little jaded with just a smattering of locals when we entered at lunchtime. The beer choice concentrated on local breweries with Storm, Front Row and Cheshire Brewhouse, beers were all in very good nick and the service was friendly and prices very good. However my gripe was (and this is my gripe) is that I’m not a fan of loud TV’s in pubs and the Kilmarnock v Celtic game was on, followed by some Sky Sports News and then Horse Racing, I found this rather intruded into the general conversation. I guess this pub would be far more interesting on an evening particularly weekend evening and I don’t doubt that it is well supported by the locals but for me I was expecting more. For those who have an interest in history then the photo’s of Lord Mountbatten around the place should be of interest. I had Front Row Chocolate Stout a beer that started off pretty good but one that I tired of after a short while.
