74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 DeanF (42) Iqaluit, Nunavut | January 6, 2013 Nice crowded hole in the wall close to downtown Ottawa. Had a seat at the bar and got some decent recommendations on their various beers. Good food, nice thick cut fries. Prices were okay and on par with the city. Pretty good place, though can be hard to get a seat on a busy night. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 Beershine (593) The Sunshine State, Florida | June 10, 2012 Comfy, cozy, and lively even on a Monday night. Great vibe that is genuinely reminiscent of an English pub. No real ales though. Friendly service and although the selection isn’t that hot, they have enough to keep it interesting. | 74 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 MarcNS (5) , | June 3, 2012 Great little basement pub in Ottawa. If you cannot get out to the Cheshire Cat than check out the Manx. Decent tap list and good food. Tends to get full early in the evening | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 2/10 OVERALL 10/20 simontheeditor (11) Richmond, England | April 3, 2012 Small cellar bar. I had the Wellington County Arkell Best Bitter which I could not make up my mind whether it was off or not. Visit marred by the poorest pub performer I have ever come across, which was made worse by massive over-amplification. I visited on a Monday: perhaps he only performs then. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 pushkinwow (70) Ottawa, Ontario | November 8, 2011 A great basement pub with a great atmosphere as long as you don’t mind the lack of windows. Seating is a little tight and its always crowded, they don’t take reservations either; but of course that is all part of the charm and the great food and fairly good beer and decent scotch selection more then make up for it. A decent selection of locals and imports (St Ambroise, Kitchisippi, Churchkey) with rotating taps and seasonals on a fairly regular basis. Of course its the food and service that bring this place to the next level - Ottawa isn’t exactly well known for its pubs but this is probably the best one all around - a place that I would be more then happy to spend the day, evening or night. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 JesseM (42) Ottawa, Ontario | July 27, 2011 Stopped in here yesterday for a laid back pub crawl with a fellow beer geek my age. Need little place, subterranean, with lots of high wooden chairs. Has a very cramped feel to it, though it didn’t bother me much. Some might call it intimate. Menu looked impressive in terms of culinary creativity and genuine quality, though I only had a sample of some delicious crab cakes. Bar is full of Ontario craft stuff, with some good offerings you wouldn’t find outside of the Ottawaish area. Service was rushed but not unfriendly, the place seems to be super busy almost all of the time. Music would have been a really nice touch, though I understand that they often do have a DJ come in. Prices were reasonable considering it’s Ottawa. Over-all I enjoyed my visit and would come back for sure. | 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 Diogène (42) Mirabel, Quebec | July 6, 2011 Nice cozy bar in a shaggy basement. Not the widest selection of beer, but a nice relax atmosphere and good service. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 sinkhole (7) Ottawa, Ontario | November 16, 2009 A cozy little bar that feels like a bunch of friends hanging out in someones basement. Always extremely friendly service and for the most part knowledgable about the beers on tap. Food is excellent and relatively inexpensive, and although the selection is limited, it does change daily. Not a huge beer selection but they typically focus on microbrews (mainly Ontario based) | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 Rastacouere (606) Montreal, Quebec | October 23, 2009 Comfortable basement pub in Ottawa’s downtown. Well-lighted and while not quite classy, you could certainly not call it trash. Not very adventurous, but solid selection of draught craft microbrews mainly focused on Ontario’s best microbreweries and English styles. A sure place if you’re just in the mood for a good pint, but probably not the place to rock your world with a new discovery. Basically, do not make it a priority, but with a few days in town, this should be worth hitting. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 robinvboyer (69) Sturgeon Falls, Ontario | July 13, 2009 The selection I found was lacking here. There were LOTS of macros on tap, this i did not understand. I did enjoy my Church Key West COast IPA, but really the amount of macros was a HUGE let down, i wasnt expectiing Keiths in this place after all the hype people had spoken about. The food thought was AMAZING! |
