Great bar in downtown Asheville. The decor is neat, but kinda dingy. This is made up for by the comfortable feel, and the busy, but laid back, vibe. The servers were overworked, but were very friendly, when they had the time. The selection is great. Plenty of taps upstairs and down, including several rare and unusual things. The food is surprisingly good. The prices are great, too. All the beer on tap is similarly priced, and they offer half pours. This is a top notch beer bar, and I will return, if I can.

Definitely a "must stop" during a trip to Asheville. Cool, laid back style from the American craft beer bar on the first floor. Even more awesome Belgian bar in the basement. The tap list at the Belgian bar has some rare selections and very high quality. The food was very tasty.

Stopped in during my visit to Asheville. A nice large bar both upstairs and down with a large number of taps that had a nice combination of locals and others. Service was good and the bartender was quite friendly/knowledgeable. Didn’t try the food on my visit. Prices were good overall. Definitely a great beer bar.

Interesting place. Upstairs American micros, downstairs Belgians and Belgian style micros. Food served upstairs is acceptable pub grub, but nothing outstanding, and the "kitchen," although totally open, isn’t much more than a revved up prep area with a single oven. But the beer selection is awesome - they have clearly worked hard to bring in some very rare and hard to find beers on tap. I can walk into a lot of places like this and only find 1 - 3 new beers to sample - here I had something like 10 or 11. And not all just odd North Carolina beers, these were from all over the place - Green Flash in California, beer from Italy, Belgium, Nebraska, etc. I would suggest going across the street to Jack of the Wood for food, and then hitting this place for beer. Hitting it hard. They also offered samplers of everything, and even provided a nice little piece of paper to write down and place your order, and then you got it back to scribble your notes. If only the food had been a notch better... Oh yeah, the service was trying its best, but they were woefully short staffed for the crowd that was present. Can’t blame the workers, they were trying, but whoever did the scheduling needed to add at least two more people to the shift.

Nice double story beer bar; the upstairs is very open, including an open air viewable kitchen, while the downstairs has a cellar vibe. Service was good, attentive and nice, seemed very knowledgeable about what they were serving, more so downstairs than up. Great selection, American craft upstairs with a lot of local and/or hard to find, and great belgian list downstairs, on tap and in bottles. Food was decent, nothing to write home about, but it gets the job done when you have had a few pints. Prices you would expect to pay for the beer you’re getting and the city you’re in. Great place, a must stop for beer connoisseurs.

I was excited to try the downstairs "Belgian Bar" but it was rented out for a Goose Island private event. The upstairs was quiet, only a few other customers. Nice selection of American craft beer, most of which was somewhat local. I ordered a pizza and while it was good, the description sounded better than the end product. Prices were on par with the area. The bartender was good but not overly friendly, which I don’t mind. Overall another great beer spot in Asheville.

You have to go downstairs, that is all there is to it. While we were there the upstairs had some relatively common local beers on tap and we weren’t overly impressed. I’ve heard they get lots of special releases from local NC breweries, so we were obviously there at the wrong time. Downstairs though, is awesome. Super knowledgable staff and fantastic Belgian beers. I tried a bunch of stuff I hadn’t even seen before and their bottle list has some nice options too. It’s no Redlight Redlight, but it was a great option in Asheville after the breweries closed up.

I’ve seen write ups on this place in a lot of publications and this was a must go place for me on our Asheville trip. I was very disapointed. Very uncomfortable cramped bar. The bartenders were not helpful or friendly. I can say there was a good selection of brews and the set up with the taps out the side of the walk in cooler is cool.

The best beer bar in Asheville no questions asked. Clean glassware, huge selection of draft and bottles. Very knowledgeable staff. Upstairs is an American pint house and downstairs is a Belgian theme.

Large place with Belgians and Belgian styles downstairs, and American stuff upstairs. All available as flights of four, individual five ounce tasters, or full pours. But, NC law says you can’t get two five ounce tasters at once - stupid laws. Service was outstanding, and selection was unmatched in the entire region, not just Asheville. A must-stop while in the area, and worth going out of your way to try.
