58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 puzzl (136) New York, New York | June 18, 2013 Beers seem to rotate very slowly; either that or half the list is static. Typical dive bar atmosphere with intentionally bad service. Prices are excellent, though, and pours are fair. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 artmcd8 (46) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | June 6, 2013 The vibe of this place is like a rock dive bar. I loved it. Awesome decor, killer music, and an extensive beer selection. My only gripe was that I had to leave so soon. I can’t wait to come back and visit. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Steve_0 (87) Denver, Colorado | June 3, 2013 A dingy, dive-bar in the Haight neighborhood, with an above-average tap-list. Nothing on tap blew me away, but it was easy to try a bunch of new beers, since I was from out-of-state. Beer list is exceptional and I even landed a Cable Car Kriek. There is always Pliny available, it seems. The bartenders did have an attitude, but nothing was off-putting and I never had an empty glass. Music was much too loud for my enjoyment, but overall my wife and I had a great time here. Definitely worth seeking out if you are in San Francisco, but remember to bring cash. Tip well and you might find yourself looking at some really cool bottles. | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 dchmela (100) Orlando, Florida | May 5, 2013 Definitely a hole in the wall, but in away I like. Good loud music and an awesome selection of beers. Cash only was a surprise, but not a problem. Some have said it is a little rough, but I though it was awesome. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 crowderm (16) Columbus, Ohio | May 1, 2013 Crowded hole in the wall sort of place with a strong tap list. They didn’t have anything exceedingly rare on draft when I stopped in, but I was still able to try a couple new brews. The bartenders had a bit of an attitude, but nothing so bad as to detract from the experience. Cool place, but I was expecting more based on the huge number of very positive reviews. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 dinkle50 (59) Chicago, Illinois | April 28, 2013 Classic dive bar with a wonderful beer selection. When I was there it was mostly belgian offerings with a handful of local California stuff. Bartender was very talkative and lots of food being brought in from next door. Reminded me of a few places in Chicago for sure. I’ll be back. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 Clembo1957 (44) Smethwick, England | April 24, 2013 The best dive in San Francisco. A must visit if in SF | 68 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 prawlie (41) , England | April 10, 2013 Lively with a good beer selection, but to be honest not my kind of place, it comes across as a bit rough. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 TEJA (41) Stockholm, Sweden | March 26, 2013 A must visit when in San Fransisco. I was there for a conference and it coinsided with the Toronado IPA festival. I came the day after the festival but still had a big selection to sample. Had to go over to their neibouring food place for a burger to bring over. They looked a litel strange when I just ordered half pints but after sampling all their IPA’s (aboute 10) and Anchor porter on cask, I was glad I didn’t take full pints. Unfortunantly missed their barley festival at the SF beer week when I was there last but look forward to my next wisit. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 rickhall28 (140) Denville, New Jersey | March 12, 2013 This is my Blind Tiger Ale House "west". It’s the one place I must visit whenever anywhere’s near SF...and the only west coast place that reminds me of my favorite BTAH. With 252 reviews it’s hard to say something that hasn’t been said (something of value that is). Well I’ve always loved the dutch door...LOL! Of course the beers are amazing. Yes the attitude can be tough/strong/impatient...choose your word...but the staff and patrons are very knowledge and beer geeks will certainly feel at home. As for others...well sit down...order something...& get the vibe before saying too much...that will get you appreciated (& not kicked out...only kidding...the attitude is a little over hyped...they are really good people here). Toughest part of a visit for a tourist is just finding a parking spot. Worth the effort though! |
