62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 TheCametron (20) , Czech Republic | February 7, 2013 I like this pub a lot. It’s touristic but really nice. Lots of seats and a traditional dress accordionist. It’s a bit of an institution and that’s because of the beer. Only 1 type and it’s wonderfull. The only other thing they sell is Becherovka and they’re proactive in trying to make you buy it. Like ’shot girls’ in a club. Don’t buy it. It’s expensive and foul. The food is delicious too here. I can recommend the pork knee. This place is expensive by Czech standards but well worth a visit. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 beeeeeeeer (3) , Croatia | February 4, 2013 nice place, paradise | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 ElDesmadre (44) Mikołów, Poland | November 28, 2012 A must-visit! Located in the buildings of a sadly defunct monastery, with a beautiful yard, complete with a wooden clocktower and frescoes. The inside is like you would imagine a Czech tavern from days long gone by. You have to sit at long wooden tables together with other visitors, the decor is wooden with stained glass windows, the accordeon player fits in very well and the waiter smashing down a pint of their only and fantastic dark beer before us on the table without asking is a sight to behold. Didn’t experience any problems with the staff. The waiter with the beers ceased giving us another one after we laid money to pay on the table, and the one with the Becherovka shots asked us only once, politely, and was everything but intrusive. Expensive but well worth it. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 15/20 jorge76 (55) , Italy | October 23, 2012 c’mon guys !! yes everybody knows that going here will mean to get in a place full of tourists ... but what are we ?? said that the beer is fantastic ,but too expensive for the average of prague , the building is a beautifull old beer hall and it is just enough to avoid the awful shot of becheorwka for enjoying your visit here | 22 AMBIANCE 1/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 3/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 6/20 heavy (61) Split, Croatia | October 21, 2012 Central location, very popular place, busy all the time, plus all tourist agencies take you there as it’s supposedly the oldest brewpub in the city.
Ambiance is...worst tavern imaginable, huge place, full of smoke and seems dirty, yet very commercialized, as they can do it. Hanging lamps made of mugs are interesting though. Service is probably worst ever, intrusive, they try to give you everything, including "welcome shot" of Becherovka they will charge of course(I know, said numerous times already). As soon as you sit you get the beer and that’s a must. For all other, you have really insist to refuse. I did not try the food of course. I was shocked to see such a place in a beautiful Prague. However, if it’s true that they have many beers on tap it would be worth visiting. Why they don’t insist on pointing that out then?! Otherwise, as I experienced, I would say try their (mediocre) beer and run away. | 78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 jcnielsen (138) Kansas City, Missouri | September 25, 2012 I visited on a weekend night when touring through Czech Republic. This place was really cool. Only 1 beer available, and the waiters don’t even ask if you want another beer, they just plop a new one down in front of you. Add onto that, that U Fleku is so easy to drink, you could get drunk very quickly here. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 18/20 geauxT (34) Virginia | September 15, 2012| Updated November 30, 2012 Yes; it;s full of tourists. Yes; it is WAAY overpriced (for Prague). Yes; the waiters pushing Becherovka can get annoying. That said; the beer is a world classic; the building is is beautiful. The beer garden is pleasant; what more do you want? 60 taps; w/ half being Imperial wet hopped golden Trappist Ale? Not bloody likely... Go; have 2-3 beers and get on down the road... | 58 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 3/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 dinkle50 (54) Chicago, Illinois | September 8, 2012| Updated November 30, 2012 This is a huge beer hall with a very smokey smoking section and a very quiet and sparsely populate non-smoking section. Beer is brought to you before you really need it, but that is a-ok by me. The food was pretty solid and went really well with the beer. Don’t try the Becherovka though. They try and force these shots on you. Just polity decline and have another beer. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 jookos (55) Helsinki, Finland | August 22, 2012| Updated November 30, 2012 Fun, traditional, place in Prague that is a must for all beer lovers. The selection is limited to their one dark lager, but it is really good, so you won’t be disappointed. The atmosphere is fun and boozy, and there’s usually some merry band playing traditional (drinking?) songs to keep everyone happy & drinking. And drinking is what this place is about; it’s hard to keep the waiters from serving more beer or snaps. Food is ok bavarian-style (pork, potatoes and stuff). Compared to Czech standards, it is a bit pricey, but worth a visit. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 Tim Webb (173) Cambridge, England | August 11, 2012| Updated November 30, 2012 Yes it is over-touristed and the staff could look a little more interested and it is expensive even for central Prague but all that misses the point of why this place is a global treasure. It has survived in one way shape of form for 500 years and none of us or the institutions and beliefs we cherish are going to come anywhere close to that. It a hero dressed in black. As older Czechs used to say before the Velvet Revolution, "First survive. Everything else is luxury." |
