74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 Glouglouburp (345) Montreal, Quebec | February 2, 2013 Very well located brewpub in center Providence. Seems to be a University student hangout place but it sure isn’t a dive bar. To the contrary, the place is very modern, feels a bit like a chain, not your neighbourhood tavern. Nice patio where you have a view on downtown buildings. They had 7 beers on tap, I skipped over what seemed like entry level beers and had a pint of Simcoe IPA (good) and a the Coffee Bean Porter (surprisingly very good and original). Two beers is probably too small of a sample to judge the entire lineup but I was very happy with the quality of my two beers. We ate at Trinity (the other brewpub in town) but from what I saw of the food, it looked very nice and went far beyond the usual basic pub fare. I preferred Trinity but Union Station was really worth a stop for me. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 Drake (392) Ivy, Virginia | September 8, 2012 Smallish place, very dark lighting and dark woods. This is located in a very nice area of Providence. Go during Waterfire. Trust me. The bartender was a tad bit patronizing but was pretty friendly and helpful. I did not try the food but the menu did look good. The sampler was a little pricy, but not too bad. I kinda feared the beers here since its a chain, and I was pleasantly surprised. Good stuff. Parking was easy but I bet it gets real tough late in the afternoon. Very close to the main bus terminal so that’s an option and I imagine that you could just part at the mall too. Overall I quite enjoyed stopping here. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | August 27, 2012 Large place below street level in the center of downtown. Small patio. Staff were friendly and efficient, didn’t try the food, but it looked good as it went by. The big disappointment was the beer. The IPA was OK, but they can keep the rest. | 74 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 15/20 AGAquino (50) San Juan, Puerto Rico | June 2, 2012 Nice place, though few beers to choose from. Food is above average pub fare, with a very good pot pie and meatloaf.
| 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 iBodhisattva (8) Providence, Rhode Island | March 19, 2012 A bit of a stale corporate feel here. So, if you’re looking for a place to hang this ain’t it-not yet anyway. The beer selection is enjoyable, the food is pretty good. It is worth checking out every now and then. | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 Braudog (655) Hampton, Virginia | August 25, 2011 August 2011. Pleasant surprise of my road trip, maybe because I wasn’t expecting much. But we enjoyed our stop here -- the beer lineup was solid if unremarkable, and the few we sampled could be described similarly. Both dinner entrees we had were good as well, and the service was good too. Maybe nothing over-the-top to rave about here, but a sturdy brewpub nonetheless. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 10/20 tenchiro (8) Providence, Rhode Island | May 23, 2010 The atmosphere seems as corporate as their clientele. They do have a decent selection of beer and food but beware that Reuben just isn’t and I am still biter about that.
Personally I prefer other spots around town but they are worth a look. | 16 AMBIANCE 1/5 SERVICE 2/10 SELECTION 2/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 3/20 auerbrau (278) Peace Dale, Rhode Island | February 17, 2010 Sterile, corporate brewpub filled with snotty waitstaff, brainless customers, and bad beer. Prices a touch high. Too many obscenely large televisions. It was cold at the bar. Why even think about going here if you’ve got Trinity right around the corner? There’s nothing to see here, go somewhere else. | 54 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 Tonkun (13) New York | February 7, 2010 Not a lot of selection. Food was ok. Drink prices were ok but food was over priced. The service was ok. No somewhere I would return, though not a bad place. | 48 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 10/20 dr0823 (5) Connecticut | September 28, 2009 Went to this place to have a few beers on a Saturday night. The bar was completely packed but there were several tables available in the bar area. The hostess informed us that we couldn’t sit at the tables in the bar area without ordering dinner. Kind of stupid since we wanted to spend money at this establishment but not order food. Is this unreasonable? I really didn’t feel like standing at the bar. I have been here before and appreciated their beers for the most part. I was really looking forward to drinking their cask beer that evening. Don’t waste your time at this joint. Went up the road to Trinity Brewing and had a better experience. And the beer was significantly better. |
