Love this bar, it’s always inviting.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. Very small and easy to miss, and certainly nothing to look at from the outside. However, inside is a nice little restaurant. Parking is very limited. Selection isn’t huge, but there are some taps which warrant a stop. For instance, they had two Toppling Goliath beers on tap, although neither were real exciting offerings from them. They also had Back Pocket beers listed as being on tap, although they were out of both of them. Nachos were pretty good, but the burger was average, and the onion rings were pretty bad. On the plus side, everything was pretty reasonably priced, and the service was pretty good. Not the premier beer destination of Des Moines by any means, but definitely worth a stop if you have time and are in the area.

I visited after Full Court Press purchased it. The parking lot is very small, but there is street parking on University. Inside is compact but works well. Lots of exposed wood and a cool tap wall made from an old library card catalog. The tap line up is solid with NB seasonals, a Rock Bottom WDM seasonal and other micro goodies. The nachos were delicious and filling with the fried flour tortilla chips. The rest of the menu is burgers, sandwiches, sides and chili. Pretty nice food selection for a small bar. The beer is well kept and they have proper glassware. This is definitely worth a visit if you are near the Drake campus and want something smaller and with less hassle to get to than the downtown bars.
