64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 tastybeer (28) Bloomington, Indiana | May 13, 2013 Solid brewpub with a few weakness that keep it from being a true standout. The restaurant is very popular but there is not a lot of seating. On nice days, the waiting time for the patio will exceed an hour, so plan to go during off hours if you want to avoid a wait. Service is good, staff are knowledgeable and efficient. Beer selection is rather poor, they only have 6-7 taps at any given time and no bottle list. No guest beers, only Upland’s clean beers and almost always stuff that is bottled. However, the food is excellent - one of my favorite restaurants in town. Prices are very good, beers are usually about $4 a pour and the entrees are all $10-15. They also do flights. Overall worth a visit, but your first stop should be the Tap. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 ContemplateBeer (80) Louisville, Kentucky | February 2, 2013 This place is full of local artwork and various banners from GABF and other accolades; this place is TIGHT in regards to seating, borderline uncomfortable. Service was as fast as they could be, and seemed knowledgeable when answering questions. Selection consisted of their beers, and a special version of Ard Ri on firkin (vanilla something or other). Food was pretty much awesome; I had some turkey guacamole every veggie known to man sandwich, my wife had a cheese plate with charcuterie- the cheese chunks were HUGE, and two words- duck. bacon. Another friend had fish and chips, also delicious and even my son’s mac and cheese looked tended to with the utmost care. Meals were fairly priced according to quality, but I think the cheese/charcuterie plate was an excellent value. The beer sampler was 8.50, and all eight pours were 4 oz. A pretty awesome place, with the minor complaints of space and perhaps some guest taps with in state breweries. Worth many returns. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 fletchfighters (41) , Australia | September 3, 2012 Went there on way to Louisville and wanted to check them out.
Cool little place. Nice outdoor patio and nice indoor area to dine at. Much bigger operation than what I thought it would be. Good vibe in the place. Older crowd inside the place, really different than what I got in Munster.
Good service from the bartender as me and my GF sat at the bar. Very talkitive and one of the better places we got service in.
Beers were decent. Had their Triple and it was awful. the brown ale and Bad Elmer were quite good. Smallish tap list though
Food was good. Had the bison burger and also had the loaded chips. Oops!! Been in Australia too long and thought chips were fries. Loaded potato chips, still quite good.
Still had some of their sours available when I was there. Good to see and the bartender was honest enough to say not to bother as they were not the good ones. Big plus!!
| 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 b3shine (179) Cincinnati, Ohio | July 16, 2012| Updated May 14, 2013 Nice brewpub in Bloomington. They didn’t have any of their sours in at the time, but they had a solid selection of beer (both bottle and draft), and the ambiance was good (although it was a little tight and crowded). Service and food were both good, and the value was great (they’ve got some excellent specials)! A fun spot that’s definitely worth a visit! | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 deyholla (200) Oklahoma City, Oklahoma | May 17, 2012| Updated May 14, 2013 My local brewery during college, the inside has a real nice feel with two tvs over the bar in and an expanse of seating. Staff is quite friendly and helpful. Food is quite good. Usually only one or two draft only beers and bottles are available for sale. Overall definitely worth a stop if you are in town. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Brigadier (136) Bloomington, Indiana | April 28, 2012| Updated May 14, 2013 If you want to visit the Upland tap room try to go during the day or at off peak hours. Otherwise the place can be packed and with it being relatively isolated there’s nowhere to wait in the meantime.
That said, Upland is one of the must stop destinations in Bloomington. Even though they don’t put the sours or other rare beers on tap the combination of well crafted beers, a good ambiance, and great locally sourced meals make it an ideal place to pass the time. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 Immy (109) Virginia Beach, | April 16, 2012| Updated May 14, 2013 Loved this place - excellent beer and excellent food, the waitstaff ALL knew their beer. Lovely beer garden patio area. Hope I can return! Thanks big time to our server Renee! | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 20/20 kayjohns (1) Los Angeles, California | December 17, 2011| Updated May 14, 2013 Amazing restaurant and brewery. After living in Bloomington for 6 years this is still one of my favorite places to go. It’s the best over summer, or whenever ever it’s warm out, so you can sit outside on the patio filled with christmas lights. I’m also a vegetarian and Upland has a ton of delicious options for me. The beer is delicious and of course goes well with all of their food. Perfect spot to fill a growler, especially with the whole no liquor sales on Sundays. Only downside to Upland is the size, it’s very small and usually always crowded, but there’s a reason for that and it’s well worth waiting if you have to. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 jsquire (121) St. Marys, Ohio | October 31, 2011| Updated May 14, 2013 This is a nice place if you are in the area. It is a big, warehousey space with a long bar. They have a nice sample of their beers. At the bar we had great service from a knowledgable and very pregnant lady. I’ve eaten here before, but we just drank. | 62 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 tronraner (109) Walland, Tennessee | September 20, 2011| Updated May 14, 2013 I visited in the late morning on a weekday. It wasn’t very busy, but the accoustics of the building make it such that minimal conversation is extremely loud. Also, they were blasting country music. Made for a stressful environment. The bartender was friendly and efficient. The beers were typical predictable brewpub fare, but solidly made. I ate a bbq pork sandwich and potato salad. I tend not to eat bbq outside of the south, but they use good local pork and it was pretty good. The potato salad was super bland. Nice place all in all, but I was a little bit disappointed. |
