92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 Rastacouere (606) Montreal, Quebec | July 1, 2009 Now I suppose this place is hit or miss. It’s growing fast and is a proper brewery, so it is a great idea to call ahead and make sure that the brewer, Steve, who is also KrausenJockey, is there to have a tour with you. Otherwise, they are supposed to have a small tasting room in a small adjacent Cafe soon enough, so the place will be worth the detour then. As far as I’m concerned, I must put a rating which reflects my experience and it was phenomenal. Steve was all too happy to take us in and have us try everything and that includes all the stuff aging in the numerous barrels. We stayed about 2 hours from 11 AM!!! to 1AM, on empty stomachs and ended up pretty drunk over all the wild experiments that Steve undertakes in his brewery. Experiments with the wild Stockton air-ambiant beasties, bold Belgian styles, balanced impy, bock, barley wine; this is pretty much the kind of operation which brought you into beer in the first place and Valley acts as a paradigm in the whole affair. If you have an extra day in San Francisco, getting out here is a great idea + Schooners and Livermore’s store are almost on the way. |
