62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 Rune (319) Tromsø, Norway | April 17, 2013 A traditional English, medium-sized, pub promoting a laidback mood and an uncomplicated atmosphere. Good variety of cask ales from breweries like Brains, Peerless, Cross Bay, Liverpool Organic and Boggart in addition to some Belgian bottled beers. There is a wide screen in the main room where we watch the live match between Man U and Man C. At our visit we noticed that some of the guests were drinking to Thatcher’s death. The right kind of music was played, meaning Beatles, Stones, Animals, Kinks, Smiths and Clash. Friendly service. Vernon is located in the same street and only a few minutes from Ship & Mitre (visited, 08.04.2013). | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 Brugmansia (256) Jylland, Denmark | November 30, 2012 Visited in januar 2012 on our pre-winter-ale-pubcrawl..
Old traditionel city pub, the bar is along the wall, and with lots of small round tables. In the back the eating area with bigger tables.
On the original windows the inscription says Liverpool Brewing Company.
Very nice range of beers, well conditioned as well.. The food was traditionel pub food, nothing spectacular, but great value for the money.. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 lada66 (131) Savonlinna, Finland | September 25, 2012 Back in a real ale business. Thanks for that. Boggart Rum Porter has become a tradition on every visit (2010). | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 craggyisland (8) Barcelona, Spain | June 19, 2012 Traditional place, fairly small but with a nice feel to it. Staff very friendly. Good selection of beers, a couple of decent whiskies too. Don’t see it really busy too often, perhaps because of its proximity to the Ship and Mitre. All the same, it’s worth stopping in for a pint. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Cunningham (246) Halden, Norway | April 10, 2012 A nice selection of beers. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. What more can you ask for :-) | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 Boudicca (372) London, England | April 9, 2012 A down to earth locals’ local in the business district of Liverpool. The Vernon Arms is fairly Spartan and a bit frayed at the edges but they have a good beer selection, with seven hand pumps, and gave us a warm welcome on a Tuesday evening in January when the temperature outside felt well below zero. We sat in the room at the back. It was warmer in there and more comfortable for eating in than the main bar. The food isn’t going to win any Michelin stars but it was hearty, tasty and excellent value at two meals for £7.

That’s not to say it’s scruffy or unwelcoming - it’s one of those solid and unpretentious boozers that Liverpool does rather well. Six handpumps in use. Boggart Rum Porter and Brains Rev James seem to be regulars, with four rotating guests, including a beer from Peerless when I visited. Now run by the same people who used to be the licensees at the Exclesior just down the road. |
