68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 jmgreenuk (89) The Hague, Netherlands | February 24, 2013 It’s about time I rated this place! As it’s name suggests, it’s an old Victorian style pub in the heart of the city that thankfully and rather surprisingly retains much of its original character. They have a small but rotating selection of real ales, so it’s always worth checking out to see what they currently have. The staff are friendly, the wifi good and the customers "colourful". I’ve always enjoyed my visits here. In terms of the architecture, its like stepping back 100+ years, but your fellow customers somehow manage to bring you bang up to date :-) | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 linkup101 (8) Birmingham, England | December 25, 2012 An old school pub located in a part of Birmingham City Centre that’s fast becoming the hub of the craft beer scene in Birmingham.
The decor is wonderful, it’s always been busy when I’ve been in there and the beers have always caught my eye in terms of being a lot more interesting than the average pub.
Definitely a regular stopping off point on my beer rounds in Birmingham. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 imdownthepub (253) Banbury, England | December 5, 2012 It has to be over 30 years since I had been in here, but now it has been done up it could well be a regular. There are now 3 rooms, all of a similar decor and fittings, but nice and comfortable, with a good feel to the place. There were 5 beers available and I managed a couple of new ratings, the beers were all in very decent condition. The food was also very good. With The Brewdog opening up soon across the road, this will make it a popular area to go. Well worth a visit. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 scotthmoore (10) , England | March 5, 2012| Updated March 29, 2012 Really interesting interior decor, can get crowded at weekends but not horribly so thanks to its slightly off-the-beaten track location. Small selection of real ales. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 DanielBrown (210) Birmingham (via Leicester), England | March 21, 2010| Updated April 27, 2013 An old skool boozer that has recently been smartened up and straightened out. Beautiful interiors are now accompanied by hipsters, good music and 3 regular ales and 1 guest. Regular events and new food options. Good atmos here. >> Updated on 27/4/13 - they now have consistently interesting cask and a rotating selection of excellent bottled craft beers, from names such as Kernel, Partizan, Howling Hops - great stuff. |
