I was a bit disappointed in this place. Lots of casks, but that’s about it. Downstairs bar was having quiz night, and the upstairs bar was closed despite having plenty of people in it and a working barman. Terrace off the upstairs bar was mainly for smokers. Slightly depressing atmosphere, but might be better on a return visit.

Great pub in the heart of the city, offering a wide selection of always fresh draught beers (mainly real ales, don’t come here if you are looking for British craft beers) and some standard international bottles. No food but you can bring your own. Friendly service, good prices. A must visit when in Birmingham.

Solid boozer that had a great range of casks in average condition.

Come here for a great selection of local beers. Not a place for international ticks, but you will find micro milds and bitters a plenty.m

This place seems to be a little on the more upmarket, the interior looks very chain pub. But the service was solid and the beer selection wasn’t mind blowing but it was pretty good.

good range of 14taps but not always on. sometimes the beers served lack condition even though turnover is high. I like the screen to inform which beer is on which tap. usually a good range of light and dark beers. Bare wood floors and plenty of seating and handy to get to in city centre. Ticker’s heaven, usually a few beers not yet in db.

Situated between Snow Hill and New St stations the Wellington has been serving a great range of ale for over 10 years. Beers are listed on a screen next to the bar with style, colour and price which is handy. Avoiding the Black Country beers which I find not to my taste there’s plenty of choice from local micros and those from much furrther afield. You can pick up something interesting here most visits. Not much in the way of Craft beer but doesn’t really need to be. Other venues in Brum have this base covered. Beer is always in good condition. Definitely worth a stop if you’ve got time to kill in Birmingham

Visited the Monday 10th November 2014. Maybe the best authentic pub that I have ever visited. The place is really nice and looks like a classic pub. The beer selection is made on a screen with update of the beer selection. There are 16 cask with British beers and some local interesting product. Price are pretty. Service is good also. The place is really clean. On the roof there is a terrasse but I didn’t visit it. I really recommend this place a must to see.

A little bit of a Birmingham institution. Pretty much the only place in Birmingham to get a half decent drink a few years ago. Sadly the Wellington has fallen behind the times and no modern British craft offerings are to be found. Even more forward looking Cask brewers are overlooked here. You should still be able to find a decent Oakham or Mallinsons most of the time however. And no dig to either of those as they’re both fantastic breweries in my humble opinion. A recent refurbishment has the place looking better then ever, including a cluttered but welcome roof terrace. The carpets have even stopped smelling like death for the time being! Lesser staff will happily ignore you to serve friends and regulars but if Nigel is on he’s a gent. Leaving from the back door will allow you to walk straight into the beer garden of the Old Joint Stock (Fuller’s), a handy short cut!
