Popped in here in March ’12 to pick up some bottles for the following days Amtrak trip to Montreal. Didn’t look at the tap selection but the bottled selection was decent enough for the centre of Manhattan. Largely NY and east coast offerings and a few favourites from around the nation. I picked up a Brooklyn Local No.2 and Ommagang 3 Philosophers amongst others.

They have some really nice beer here, but there isnt very much and the better stuff is all warm. A few taps, but this location is always insanely busy so it’s not a place you’d want to hang out. Lineups are always crazy here when it comes to checkout time, but it’s good if you’re staying in the area.

Beer choice is pretty good. Lots of choice. 4 taps (for takeway in growlers)

Uhh, the most crowded Whole Foods in the world. Literally impossible to check out. Beer selection is downstairs in extremely cramped aisles. Very minimal selection...like worse than most common grocery stores in NYC. Only thing I saw of even remote interest was SN Celebration fresh six packs but it was so crowded here I picked up the exact same thing at the corner grocery store a block away. I don’t see a reason to ever go here vs. Bowery Place Whole Foods.

Nice selection, but less than Bowery. I was looking for Brooklyn Black Ops and the seller was kindly enough to bring one from back of the store.

Visited midday on a Sunday, killing time. Selection was smaller than other Whole Foods I have been to, but they did have a cool fill station with four unique local selections. This was the redeeming factor, and makes it working it check out. Otherwise, pretty standard Whole Foods selection.

The selection is not as good as the Houston or Tribeca locations but still better than most places. Most of the big name American craft beers are here, as well as the big imports. They have the $9.99 Party Pack, which I love. (Eight mis-matched beers; typically 4 mediocre and four good.) No growler station as of yet. Prices are the standard Whole Foods prices, which are pretty reasonable. Obviously the food here is fantastic.

Decent selection but pales compares to its Bowery counterpart.

nothing much to add.. a busy place with a decently large bottle selection, six packs, singles and bombers. Think strategically when you’re going to come and do your shopping or you’ll be on line for a long time.

Why go here for beer when there’s a Whole Foods with their own quality beer store just a subway ride away (Bowery)? Expectedly crowded, considering it’s in the heart of Union Square across the from the Farmer’s Market, which is not cool when it comes to casually browsing beers because in this beer enthusiast hobby, who wants to feel rushed while selecting a quality ale? #15 on 12102009 DG.
