70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 KansaiBeerLvrs (42) Kyoto, Japan | January 1, 2013 A nice place near Kitahama station, very clean and simple interior which would be great for a date.
The 320 yen table charge was a bit disappointing (though you could choose a nice little appetizer so it is not too bad) and the staff didn’t seem to know the ABV’s of the beers on tap but were really friendly and apologized for the lack of an English menu but it was available on their website in English.
They have 30 taps but not all of them are in use yet, nice variety though with the menu split into: White beer, stouts, others, etc.
A nice place. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 maekchu (31) Hirakata, Japan | December 29, 2012 Fairly small bar. 30 taps, all Japanese micros on the night we went. Good menu of solid pub grub: salads, pizza, fritters, etc. Friendly atmosphere, though the staff seemed tired. They seemed to really know the beers they serve. Good pours and very fast service, too. Standing bar space for maybe 10 people, very tight against the front windows along one side. Upstairs has four tables. The bar is right over the cooking area, so it can get quite warm and the cooking smells tend to interfere with the beer experience. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 KyotoLefty (350) Kyoto, Japan | December 29, 2012 30 taps include 2 hand pumps; mostly Japanese craft, 4-5 imports. Prices quite reasonable, pints start at less than ¥800. ¥300 charge included your choice of a small appetizer. These were pretty good. Beers were in good shape. The lineup was, as in the case of many new bars lately, solid, but not quite inspiring, meaning that there were few seasonals or hard-to-find beers. Hopefully that will get tuned in. Less than 10 minutes from Q-Brick and a bit more to Beer Belly, so this should bring the whole area up a notch. Service is very fast and attentive. I like this place more and more as I go, though it is small. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 mike12da (4) Osaka, Japan | October 16, 2012 Much smaller than I expected considering they have 30 taps. Downstairs is mostly taken up by the kitchen and tap system, but there’s a small bar with 3 stools and the rest standing. Waiters have to go outside and come in through another door to get to some of the bar customers, it’s that tight. Upstairs is very well done though I didn’t sit up there. I have no idea how they’re going to push 30 kegs at a time with so few seats. Big list of Japanese craft beers, but nothing interesting, very few strong beers, and not much I wanted to drink. Food was decent enough, though I just had a pizza. Prices were very reasonable, most expensive pint was around 1000 yen. Enjoyable, nice looking place, but nothing unique. |
