I love coming here. Old school rock is usually playing and there is simple honesty in the ambience. It isn’t trying to be anything. It is a beer bar with a slightly worn look. You have to arrive early or book a table as it is always packed. I love the cheese and pate platters with hot bread. The beer selection is good. A good variety of Belgian beers. It is a Belgian beer bar so don’t expect to see local beers.

Stopped by this beer bar while stumbling my back to my hotel after drinking some beer at much superior De Spuyt, 5 minute walk from De Spuyt. Basic tap selection with 10 lines or less that didn’t have many Dutch beers. A medium size bottle selection (I’d say about 70 to 100) with a clear focus on Belgian ales, nothing to please the beer tourist who wants to drink dutch beers in dutch land. Music was loud, crowd was very young and the party raged on. This seems almost like a dive bar for the younger crowd who can afford Belgian beers instead of cheap beers usually found in dive bars. That place made me feel old, I don’t like that, even if I’m old.

Great little place to hide during Amsterdam’s cold winter or sit/stand outside in the summer. Classic selection of Belgian beers with bottles specials per month and week. The kitchen is good and their Belgian fries are the best in the city. Reserve a table or else avoid on weekend nights unless you are there very early or late.

A nice Belgian beer cafe, a bit on the side, mostly for locals I suppose, though some tourists end up here as well. Prices are fairly decent, good for the tap stuff. The known Belgians are here and of course the trappists. Eight taps with one seasonal (summer/winter) and one monthly. Nothing special in the bottle section though. Good food, serving a lot of trappist cheese fair and dishes cooked with beer. Also, three specials of the day. If you go, go for the food. It’s good. Nice enough service, friendly, knowledgeable, fast even when busy. A bit small, but it contributes to the more rustic and local feeling that’s the main attraction. Nice enough, old rock’n’roll music, but with a lot of people in a small place, it can get a bit loud.

Large but not so original selection. Some beers are served in an awful condition. Rude rude rude service.

Nice bar in relatively central Amsterdam. Has a pretty extensive list of draft and bottled beer, though not much of the selection is particularly rare or exciting. Worth checking out if you’re in Amsterdam for a while, but there are several nicer bars to check out before this one.

Belgium/Dutch-mix style bar focused on Belgian beers and younger going-out crowd. Kinda small and a very relaxed atmosphere. Liked the music, too. We were (very?) lucky to find a table on Saturday night and it was busy but no overcrowded at all. Staff seemed surprisingly knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Selection almost exclusively the more well-known Belgian (and some Dutch) ales. Would have expected more rarities but frankly there was enough to choose from. Liked the offering of Arabier and Oerbier, for example. Also the Orval was presented with the last yeasty bit served in a separate shooter glass - haven’t seen that level of detail before in a bar like this. Prices are reasonable, especially considering how close it is to Amsterdam’s Leidseplein. Recommended!

Busy place, lots of tourists and some students. Good selecion of tap beer and lots of bottles. Good service from the waitresses. We tried the food, there’s a good selection, with daily special meals (daghap). Available prices, especially for the daghap. Good atmosphere.

For someone who is into beer, this might not be the best place in the city to go to for only having some beers, but going out for dinner, this is a nice place. Some cuisine de bier, I tried the lamb with Kwak sauce and it was excellent, and a Kwak to drink with it made an almost magical combination.

Visited this pub several times in the past few years, and am pleased to revew it for Ratebeer for the first time. Narrow backstreet pub tucked away off Marnixstraat and a few minutes walk away from Leidseplein. Next door to Thermos Day sauna. Around eight taps and a vast selection of Belgian bottles kept here. Woodpanelling throughout and subdued lighting. Food is excellent but the kitchen is only open 6pm-930pm, maybe a little longer at weekends. Try the fish stew. At other times a platter of bread and cheese is available at the bar. As mentioned by the previous reviewer, the music is loud, although not extreme; and the pub certainly does overcrowd at weekends, and staff make a valiant effort to serve everyone as quickly as possible. This all points to Zotte being something of a victim of its own popularity. Punters were, however friendly, one kind enough to surprise me with a beer simply because I was sharing a table with him and his friends. I recommend a visit but do be prepared for a "sardine tin" if you go on a Friday or Saturday night.
