| | | New Holland Golden Cap | 3.5 | brewski519 | | | 12 oz bottle pours a hazy honey color with a thick white head. Aroma of banana, clove, honey and wheat. Taste is a fruity banana with spice and a grassy/wheaty finish. Nice drinking beer that I would visit again. Solid offering by New Holland. | | | | AleSmith All-English Anvil ESB | 3.6 | papajohn | | | (Old notes) Sampled side by side with the standard ESB with Peter At AleSmiths tasting bar: Color is redish-brown with a medium off white head. Aroma is light hop spice. Caramel flavor stood out while the bitterness was lighter than the standard ESB. Medium body is smooth with moderate carbonation. | | | | Clipper City Heavy Seas Yule Tide | 4 | keepersj12 | | | Nice amber pour with a white head that disappears quickly. Aroma of clove, bread, root beer. Very sweet taste with that root beer flavor in there. Some spices and a bit of an alcohol bite too. Finishes clean and refreshing. One of my top Christmas beers so far this year even though it isn’t Thanksgiving yet. | | | | Augustijn Grand Cru | 2.9 | Vaiz | | | Pours a clear golden color with a white, foamy head. Aroma is a bit sharp and of grains, yeast, licorice and a bit of alcohol. Taste is sweet and a bit bitter and of licorice, but has a sharp and unpleasant alcohol presence. Decent bitter lingering finish. Well carbonated. | | | | Le Trou du Diable Baron Noir | 3.5 | rederic | | | On tap at Brouhaha, pitch black color, with a tan-colored head, roasted, chocolate malt nose, with a faint mochaish, coffee bean accent, with some burnt toast, lignt licorice spicy notes in the aroma folows through on a medium-bodied palate with a smooth roasted, chocolatey, black malt character with some mochaish, faint coffeeish, dark bitter chocolate flavors, leading towards a black chocoalte, roasty bitterness finish. | | | | Timmermans Strawberry | 2.8 | wheresthepath | | | [330ml bottle at the Retreat, Reading] Odd murky orange-pink colour with a small cream head. Strong, sickly smell of artificial Nesquick strawberry. Candyfloss in the flavour is balanced by the sparkling carbonation, and a dry, sour woody taste behind to make a drink that is more light and refreshing than the aroma would suggest. Don’t believe it’s seen a real strawberry in its life though. | | | | St. Austell Tribute (Cask) | 2.7 | deyholla | | | Cask. Poured amber with an eggshell head that lasted a bit. Aroma was a nice combination of earthy malts and piney hops. Flavor was a bit more bitter from the hops but still an earthy flavor quite present. | | | | Mikkeller Big Worse Barley Wine | 2.3 | Rastacouere | | | Almost flat upon opening, this comes out cloudy, almost opaque brownish garnet tinted. Neglectable head. From the first whiff, it is clear that we’re dealing with a beer that aims at the liquorous genre. A fair fruitiness feels like a berry wine with cherries, blackberries, earth, leaves being the main noticeable culprits. In mouth though, its 12% alcohol comes with a vengeance, annihilating any other flavour in the very hot finish. Drinkability is of course minimal, but even as a sipper, it has more burning intensity than I desire. The initial desserty hints (think nuts and chocolate) gradually make room to raisiny leather as it warms the throat going down. Brash beer which I can’t get into. | | | | Yards Brawler | 3.4 | oOJUXEOo | | | Pours a deep copper color. Small head. Aroma is of malt right away. Hops are not up front. Taste is very smooth and easy to drink. A very simple session beer, no bells or whistles here. | | | | Girardin Gueuze Black Label | 4.4 | oteyj | | | Hazy amber pour with an effervescent body and small white head. Aroma is a funk fest- earth, nectar, citrus, horse blanket, lemon and acidic woodyness, and a slight bready yeast behind all the tartness. Flavor is an acidic sour-puss inciting funky citrus-nectar journey. This is a rude gueuze and I’m in love with it. A slight acetic acid puckering, smacking tart blast comes through with every sip. Palate is medium bodied, slippery, billowy and pillowy in its effervescence. Quite amazing. | | | | Girardin Gueuze Black Label | 4.1 | craftycarl21 | | | Pours a cloudy apricot with a small white head. Aroma holds massive amounts of funk, barnyard, lemon zest, orange, horseblanket, and perhaps a bit of oaky woodiness as well. Flavor is great; very tart, with lots of funk, lemon, and other citrus. Got a hit to the tongue that reminded me of a more aggressive and less sweet yellow Sour Patch Kid; this beer is flat out rude. Palate attacks the tongue, but somehow I still want to drink more and more. Awesome gueuze. | | | | Avery The Czar Imperial Stout | 3.8 | dogfish120love | | | Aroma consists of toffee, vanilla, chocolate milk and booze. Palate is smooth, but a little boozy. Flavor consists of mocha, vanilla, chocolate and booze...very good | | | | Liefmans Cuvée Brut (was: Kriekbier) | 3.7 | GodOfThunder | | | Bottle at redlight thanks to Troy from microman. Serious cherry nose. Sweet flavor of cherries. 2005 vintage. Nice when warmer. | | | | Big Rock Traditional Ale | 3.6 | TheDoctor | | | really surprised at some of the low ratings for this fine pub-style pint. Not as good out of a bottle or can, but an excellent option on tap. Great balance of malt and hops, lovely appearance, and nice toffee aroma. | | | | Michelob Porter | 3.3 | decaturstevo | | | Dark brown pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is medium toasted malt, some chocolate, and light coffee. The flavor mirrors the nose with a pretty nice finishing chocolate flavor. A bit fizzy and thin but really an ok porter. | | More » |

and a nice herbal hoppy presence in the aroma. Soft hay and grains greet the tongue, followed by a touch of honeybread and earthy hops right along side it; finish is a bit on the hoppy side. Clean, crisp, but still full of flavor; both malt and hops are strong,
