This beer pours black with a thin off white head. The aromas are chocolate and smoke. The flavor is roasted chocolate and smoke. I really like this one.

Sampled at The Big Pour beerfest in Scottsdale AZ, in the VIP room. Black, with a big nosefull of coffee and smoke. Flavours of coffee, bitter chocolate, a touch of vanilla sweetness, and a fair bit of smokey character. There is a slightly vegetal bitterness in the finish. Really nice, very smokey but still allowing the other flavours to play through on the palate.

Draught at EsBF09. Mild vinous aroma. Black colour. Good smokey flavour, mildly roasted. Good smooth mouthfeel. Roasted and mild, hint of grassy hops, especially in the aftertaste.

Dark brown with a small pale beige head that leaves small lacings. The smell has a gentle but prominent smoky character of mostly smoked ham. Notes of charcoal. Dark malts with a gently roasted character. Some fruity notes. The taste is mostly sweet with a delicate mix of smoked ham and roasted malts. Notes of charcoal, wood, coffee, chocolate and roasted fruits. The finish is somewhat bitter with a slight taste of minerals, dark bread and perhaps just a hint of grassy hops. Medium body, slightly boring texture, quite a lot of carbonation. I liked this one. The smoky character takes the lead from start to finish, but it never gets too overpowering or cloying. Instead, it’s rather delicate actually. Serving type: bottle (Copy of old Beer Advocate review)

It’s pitch black with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, light smoke and licorice. The flavor has a light sweetness and light notes of smoke, licorice and caramel and the finish is slightly sweet and bitter. It’s a really nice interpretation of a scwazbier.
