A rich sweet aroma with a strong macadamia nut character and notes of coconut. The body is thick and smooth with a toasty flavor complementing the nut. Sweet but not overwhelmingly so with a light finish. A unique porter. oteyj (757), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 30, 2009 Pour is very black with a one finger tan head- frothy and small bubbled. Aroma is orgasmic- a huge mocha note swirls together with bitter chocolate, mild creaminess, toasty macadamia nut, oat sugars, coconut, and earth. Flavor is a sweet concoction of chocolate, further oatiness, caramel, and molasses with a subtle background of coconut, nut, and dark fruit. Roast character is noticeable but minimal. Palate is medium to full with lively effervescence and a somewhat roasty clean finish. craftycarl21 (551), South Hero, Vermont, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 30, 2009 Black pour with a small but pretty light tan head, solid lacing. Aroma is phenomenal; holds amazing coffee and toasted malt notes, and the macadamia nut and coconut really do come through beautifully. Also smells of chocolate, oat, earth, and roasted chestnut. Flavor is also great; many of the same notes come through, particularly the coffee, oat, and nut. Booze has a warming presence; the palate strikes me as a smidgen thin, but overall still very nice. This is an excellent porter, I’m again very impressed with Stone. Sonicdescent (379), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 30, 2009 Shocked at how good this one smells. Sweet chocolate and fresh coffee, just a tad oversweet keeps this one from a 10. And now the rating assistance: caramel, chocolate, coffee, nuts, roasty, woody. Good!
Appearance is also good, with a tiny amount of light getting through the black and a very nice looking froth head. Taste is impressive, this tastes like an iced coffee. Booze is very light in the background. Hints of the nuts come out over a very good coffee stout base. I really enjoy this beer. Body is my biggest issue, as I feel a thicker and slightly less bubbly feel would have done wonders and elevated this one into the stratosphere, but overall, I can’t complain as this is an excellent beer and a good example of Stone going out of it’s hoppy comfort zone. goldtwins (4080), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Poured opaque black with a good sized cream tan head that diminished rather quickly. The aroma starts with bold coffee with lesser notes of chocolate and nuts. Had hints of coconut shell more than the actual flesh or milk. Big roasted flavor with coffee and nut middle. Dark chocolate finish. Light hops on the finish. Light ash. Medium + body. Some warmth in the throat. Milk chocolate really started coming out as it warmed. But so did the ash. wavers1 (135), novato, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 28, 2009 nice brown pour with a medium sized medium brown head that fades fairly quickly and leaves some spotting and lacing. aroma is not bold, nor is it subtle. the notes of all three coconut, coffee and macadamia all present themselves nicely and in equilibrium. the roast and toast of all three meld together to make a very nice, very easy flavor and aroma. the taste is nice, the coffee is in the lead here, followed closely by coconut, with macadamia off in the back. super roasty, nice and smooth, easy drinker. this would be a great session beer for the island of the bay alike, i wish it were a lil easier to get. this is my fave stone collabo thus far, great stuff! blipp (1669), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Bottle. Deep brown with a beige head. Roasted malt aroma with loads of coffee and a solid nutty sweetness. The flavor has coffee up front, and a lighter nutty sweetness. Lightly bitter roasted finish. Very good.
