Commercial Description:
Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "Oud Beersel Oude Lambik" and anything less than 6 months-old under "Oud Beersel Jonge Lambik".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik". If in doubt, message JorisPPattyn.

1 year old lambic at Delerium, based on the presence: hazy orange with a semi lasting, bubbly and white head I think this is the Jonge Lambik. Aroma sweet malty, light grassy hoppy. Sweet malty flavoured, light bitterness and vague citrusy note lurking through. Bitter and slight spiced flavoured finish.

[9/8/08] Bag in box at Delirium Cafe in Brussels. Golden-bronze color with a very bubbly small white head. Aroma has some funky cheese, barnyard notes and citrus. Sour bretty flavor, but with very noticable residual sugars that disappear towards a dry, slightly astringent, finish with some lemon and grapefruit. Very lightly carbonated, but still haven’t really matured yet.

Light reddish-brown color reminds me of sun tea. No bubbles, just a few UFOs that I’m told are yeast from near the bottom of the barrel. Really? The bottom of the barrel never tasted this nice. Lightly sweet, musty and tart like cider from Granny Smiths, lightly acidic, a little rusty, somewhat dry. Refreshing.

Hazy light orange. Fair off-white head. Gently grapefruity, certainly citric and quite clean lambic. Soft, hay-like, almost floral character. It develops fresh wheat tones that make it highly drinkable. Hugely refreshing, unpretentious and drinkable example.

Bruxellensis 2007. Lambic from november 2006. Cherry and grapes in the aroma. A soft sourness. Somewhat soapy flavor. Cherry, vinous. Shortish slightly nutty bitter aftertaste.

At the brewery - 3 months old. Very hazy orange body without head off course. You can tell from the looks it’s very young. Sweet, little bit acidic aroma, smells still like wort. Very hoppy bitter, lightly sweet flavour. Quite ok, but a little bit older should be better.

From a bottle at ZBF 2007. Thanks to mes for procuring this one. If the Oude Kriek didn’t quite seem the finished article, this certainly wasn’t. Hazy straw colour. The aroma didn’t have a huge degree of farmyard but there was a herbal, almost grassy character with a minty antiseptic undercurrent. Quite restrained acidity on the palate with more herbaceous elements. Soft mouthfeel (for a lambic), with a distinct sweetness. Unusual, but interesting, and not at all unpleasant.

Draught. Golden coloured. No head. Unclear. Fresh sweetness with a delicious underlaying sourness. Is quite tart and has some woody and barnyardy notes. Flavour is woody as well. Earth and barnyard. Great souness. Is quite mild on the palate. Has a grassy and woody sour end. I like this.
