DA (2586), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Aug 29, 2008 On tap at Roots. Pours black with a soft brown head. Dry earthy burnt chocolate flavor up front, highly carbonated drying out the finish a lot. This didn’t have much body at all, much less then their normal imp stout, felt a bit to fizzy and lively on the palate to let the deeply malted flavors settle on the palate. I think this could have been a beautiful beer, but the thin palate just ruined it. The woodiness from the barrels was absent, the rich malts gone, what was left felt like a dry chalky burnt chocolate, thin and bitter and high in excess alochol. Needs to thicken up and it would probably be very nice. Angeloregon (2023), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 28, 2008 On tap at Roots Organic Brewing in Portland, OR--Poured an opaque black headless body with lots of boozy legs. Bourbony, mildly smoky, malty nose. Smooth, mellow, well-balanced. Oily, slick smooth body with some vanilla undertones. Yum!
