fakepurseninja (578), Washington, USA Sep 24, 2008 Nice looking. Roasted malt backbone with nice belgian sugar notes and toffee. Light yeast notes and a toasty bready component. SQNfan (500), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jun 7, 2008 Deep brown in color that left a thin head. The nose is mellow with scents of coffee, chocolate and hazelnut. In the mouth it is medium-bodied with great acid and balance of malt and hops. Not the mose complex but enjoyable. illidurit (489), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jun 6, 2008 On tap at the brewpub for RR’s 4th anniversary.
Pours an opaque, dark brown color with a tan frothy head that reduces rather quickly. Aroma is toasty malt and coffee with a touch of fleshy fruit. Flavor is of those See’s coffee flavored candies with some roasty bitterness and smoke. Chewy and sticky. Really smooth and drinkable. rkuhnel (1195), Eureka, California, USA Mar 28, 2008 At the Russian River Brewpub this pour was in a 13 oz tulip glass. Came with a nice 1/2 inch of very foamy tan head and left great lacing. Nose of dark malts, chocolate, and grassy hops. Very smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is of chocolate, coffee, fruit, and nuts. Smooth finish. This is one that makes you want to go back for a second, but I have to drive back to Eureka and want to save room for a Compunction. Another quality beer from Russian River. grant (764), Martinez, California, USA Mar 24, 2008 Opaque, very dark brown. Surprisingly white head, which seems to suggest patent. Also surprising is the incredibly faint aroma - simple coffee roastiness. Flavor is lightly stouty with a few plasticky notes. A light smattering of esters and fruitiness culiminate in a quite metallic finish and aftertaste with an unpleasant roast bitterness. This one doesn’t work too well, for me.
