Commercial Description:
Who's afraid of the "big bad BRET?" We'll tell you who: winemakers! Because of our close proximity to several hundred wineries, we often get winemakers visiting our brewery. (After all, it takes a lot of great beer to make great wine!) Because we use 100% Brettanomyces yeast to ferment Sanctification, most winemakers will only smell the glass, and only a very few will venture to taste the beer. They think the Brettanomyces will attach to their clothing and end up in their winery. A simple solution was offered: keep a smudge pot burning at the door of our brewery so they can burn their clothes when exiting, but even that was not enough. After giving it more thought, we concluded that winemakers think Brettanomyces might scar their taste buds and possible even permeate their skin? Either way, Sanctification is one of the most unique beers you will ever taste! It was fermented with 100% Brettanomyces, rather than the traditional Saccharomyces.

Bottle Pours out a cloudy gold topped with a white head. Aroma is very nice some lemon, fresh cut grass, some brett, and sweetness. Taste is very nice lots going on plenty of the brett and tartness. The spice and sweetness is a great mix. Thanks Toby for this tast treat.

Pours a hazy straw yellow. Nose is similar to temptation, hints of lemon, leather, and hay. Taste is extremely dry, spicy saison like yeast, light lemon, funk, lots of brett, hay, and finishes dry and slightly dusty.

750 mL - Thanks Toby for the share!...Pours out golden with a frothy white head...aroma is enticing, lemon zest, earthy, grassiness keeps it crisp about it despite it’s years in the bottle, and has a restrained funk element which I can only attribute to the 100% brett...flavour is similarly bright, tart fruit and leather that never forays into that bracingly sour pucker, honey, ample carbonation...definitely has a finesse that you don’t find in over the top sours...nuanced and light, this was definitley a departure from the other RR brews...thanks again man!

On tap at the brewpub. Cloudy light orange-gold with a very fine creamy white head. Bright, fruity sourness in the aroma with light malt underpinnings an great "animal" secondary aromas. Flavor is a touch sweet at first on the attack but the sourness quickly asserts inself strongly in the follow-through. Bracingly-tart with a great fruity edge that lasts well into the finish. Crisp, bright, well-balanced body with good holding power that lasts and lasts in a long finish. Bottled: 3 yrs-aged - Thanks Paul. Over the yearsit has developed a profound earthiness while still retaining an incredible freshness to it. More complexities emerge in both the aroma and flavor in the form of citrus, herbaceousness, and forest qualities. Truly remarkable.

Preserved lemons, dusty funk and a fruity (I’m picking up blueberries somehow!?!) underlying Belgian sweetness in the nose. Medium gold hue with a thin but persistent white head. Flavor initially follows the nose, but then quickly reveals a wonderfully tart middle that moves towards an earthy finish. Quite impressed with the balance between ’sweet’ and ’tart’ in this one. Neither one holds sway, and I think that was the idea. Well done! Another winner from Russian River.

draft @ Brouwer’s Sour fest - was very excited to see this one on the fest list; hazy gold with fluffy white head; grassy, lemony aromas with mild bretty funk; sweet, wheaty flavors comes off almost like a mild temptation; brett is muted and profile is delicate; just a killer nose; amazing and a letdown all at the same time!! haha

On tap at Stone Sourfest 09. Hazy yellow pour with small quickly receding white head. Aroma was dusty, lemon and vinegar. Flavor was funky, bleu cheese, dust, cobwebs.

Yet another stellar hand bottle from Josh! Pours slightly hazy yellow with a very thin head sans for the rim around the glass. The nose is sweet citrus, lemon zest and sour vinegar. The taste is citrus, malt vinegar, spicy yeast and barnyard funk. It has an interesting mouthfeel, almost like there’s 2 layers like drinking a raw egg. Could be the hand bottle. Anyway, nice sour regardless. Thanks again Big J!
